I’m in one of ChengLei’s private Fanpages and the fans who purchased the script have shared some details about the changes. Of course they don’t spoil everything but they do point out the difference between JinAn in the novel and JinAn in the drama. I don’t want to spoil anything either but I hope everyone would give this a chance because the reason why this novel was the least popular among the author’s other works was because of the poison/obsession thing + JinAn was literally a child in the novel. The writing team took a whole year writing this script and ChengLei’s fans and ChengLei himself, we all are really proud of Shadow Love.

Jin An in the drama is very different from the novel. He’s more independent and mature as the writer makes him keep (subconsciously) his crown Prince personality he had before being poisoned + a lot cuter. Obsession comes in when he transforms. JinAn will have more internal struggle and mental gymnastics. Definitely much more substance than just being a naive baby werewolf like in the novel. Also in the novel there was not a lot time for them to spend together after his memory returned, making their love a bit awkward. The drama will give a lot more time focusing on their relationship after he returns to his original identity. Technically, you can look at it as her 1st love (JinAn) dies and Duan Ao Deng (the crown Prince) has a one sided love for her and must wins her over while protecting his own country. Very interesting plot that focuses on character development.
