In Canada common law is just like marriage but without a paper. Its easier when they separate like no alimony, no division of assets legally, there is no divorce just separation... but one can always go to court and then common law will be established and judge will divide the asset. I know a colleague who only kept girlfriends for 11 months and then breakup to avoid common law relationship 🤣🤣
