I think a lot of viewers went into this drama expecting a typical BL with obvious romance, flirting, and fanservice so when they got something quieter, slower, and emotionally subtle instead, they immediately labeled it “boring” without really connecting to what the drama was actually trying to do

I think the drama intentionally stayed in that emotional “in-between” space which is probably why so many viewers keep debating whether it should’ve been a full BL or not

Personally I never watched this drama expecting loud chemistry or intense romance I liked it more for the emotional atmosphere, sadness, and the quiet attachment between the characters, which is probably why it worked for me more than for others

At first while watching, I personally saw their relationship more as deep friendship/soulmate vibes but I do agree the last episode made the romantic undertones feel much more obvious to me

Personally I think a lot of the hate toward Byeon Woo-seok stopped being constructive a long time ago people act like he’s some terrible actor when he’s literally one of the main reasons so many viewers get emotionally attached to his characters

Yeah I think a lot of people went in expecting something closer to Love in the Big City, but Soul Mate feels much more subtle, emotionally ambiguous, and focused on soulmate/bromance vibes instead

Personally, I wouldn’t really classify it as a full BL it leans more toward emotional bromance/soulmate vibes. And the ending is more emotional/bittersweet than a typical happy ending

Honestly same 😭 I started this drama expecting something soft, comforting, and healing and instead it emotionally destroyed me. And I also agree with your second point tbh I understand why some people don’t consider it a BL, but I don’t think that automatically means it can’t be seen as queer either. The emotional intimacy, attachment, and the way the relationship is portrayed definitely gives that interpretation to a lot of viewers

Not being a BL automatically doesn’t make a drama a flop though

I haven’t read that comment yet but I definitely appreciate people who can explain both the strengths and flaws of a drama in an actually thoughtful or entertaining way. Even if I disagree with some opinions, those kinds of discussions are way more interesting than comments that just repeat “boring,” “trash,” or “worst drama ever” without adding anything meaningful

How did you suddenly decide my intentions? I literally said I skipped through some parts at first just to understand the overall story, ending, and direction so I could give my opinion here. Not everyone watches dramas only looking for kissing scenes the way you seem to think

Honestly yeah if you calculate everything properly it’s actually over 5 hours, and there aren’t really long openings or credits either but to be fair I did skip through a few parts here and there
