I didn't think it was a big deal, to be honest. In fact, besides helping the end, it was also a way to unite the entire group. Without the poison, BeiMing probably wouldn't be close to Feng, and thus the wheel wouldn't start turning. We wouldn't see the friendship that was built, and how XueMan had to deal with it and finally believe in BeiMing again.
