It's a genre called Wu Xia it happens in straight dramas too. However yes I won't consider Untamed the drama a BL rather Bromance. If the director followed the novel then they would have went to jail, China is homophobic in most means. Even my country is too.

I said nothing negative just saying if you watch this genre. This is obviously expected clearly you don't that's why you complained. I have read many stories about this theme they're the same. It's a specific genre with a specific story line and specific cliches it's like watching thriller and expecting to not to see blood
