Eighty percent of this show is just the female lead cooking and the male lead eating—that’s the crux. Don’t…
Look, I’m okay with you denying that the show is just a mix of recycled tropes and lazy repetition (ignorance can be bliss, good for you). But saying Bon Appétit, Your Majesty ‘doesn’t focus heavily on cooking’ is hands down the most laughable and absurd take I’ve ever come across. Even if you’re a fan blinded by love for the drama, denying its very core focus is blatant delusion. At this point, I’m not even sure what show you’ve been watching.
is this worth watching? what's the vibe of this drama?
Eighty percent of this show is just the female lead cooking and the male lead eating—that’s the crux. Don’t expect any real story; the writer got lazy and recycled scenes from older dramas of the same genre. Acting and chemistry are just okayish, nothing phenomenal. Overall, it’s a one-time watch—best consumed at 1.5x speed. If you’re fine with everything mentioned above, you might enjoy it.
Looking forward to this one! The thing with Disney+ is that even when they have quality shows, they just don’t know how to hype them. Netflix, on the other hand, goes all out with promos and marketing, which is why even their shows with zero substance and below average acting end up ranking on global charts—the power of visibility and a massive audience, all part of their genius business model. No matter how good a show is, it needs the right push for people to notice it, especially in today’s world. I really hope this one gets promoted well—unlike Tempest (an absolute gem), which isn’t really getting the attention it deserves.
Heo Nam Joon, what a man you are! Finally, we have an actor who embraces his natural masculine face and physique, instead of relying on the overdone “pretty boy” look with pouted lips, heavy makeup, identical hairstyles, and whitewashed filters. On top of that, this man can act—a refreshing bonus compared to many others.
And let’s not forget my girls—Kim Dami and Shin Hye Eun—both beautiful, talented actresses who bring so much charm to the screen. The drama has been such a fun watch so far, and I’m definitely looking forward to the upcoming episodes!
The thing with Jung Chae Yeon is that she tends to act with a poker face, relying on one to three expressions to express her character throughout a drama. While her limited expressiveness has often been a drawback in romance projects, it suited this role more effectively. Lawyers are expected to maintain a composed, unreadable demeanor in court, and her restrained expressions fit that context well. Her line delivery was sharp, crisp, and impactful, working especially well in courtroom and case related scenes. However, when the tone shifted toward more emotional or melodramatic moments, her performance still lost impact. Nonetheless, while this may not signal a complete transformation, but compared to her earlier work, this felt like a step forward and showed that with the right role, her acting can find the right balance.
Well, I kinda agree, but Jin Woo gets a major character overhaul after the first chapters, plus it's difficult…
Kindly read before commenting. I’ve said the same thing you’re emphasizing, just with different words. In my opinion, it wasn’t even his looks that gave him a pass in that villain role—it was his physique and the three-piece suits he wore. What really works for him is his model-like physique and styling, not his looks, because appearance-wise he’s very generic. Remove the physique and styling, and most of his presence would vanish instantly. As far as acting is concerned, you are on point.
People can get a good idea about the content of this show just by reading the title. It should not be a surprise…
I have never come across someone like you, nor do I want to. You have such a narcissistic mentality—somehow, in your mind, the thoughts you state are all positive and righteous, even while you’re literally calling people names. But when others share theirs, you immediately label them negative and condescending. And what is this talk about power, validation, uplifting, confidence, and fulfillment—are you in some sort of cult?
People sharing their opinions on an entertainment discussion site isn’t a world peace issue or a humanitarian crisis. It’s just a plain discussion. You like it? Great. Don’t like it? Move on. The way you are taking such simple things to a dramatic level is beyond my understanding. I’m completely done with this overreaction of yours.
Since you’ve stated something at end, I want to reciprocate—I too sincerely hope your day improves (you seriously need it), as mine has always been wonderful.

Sort of agree, but I have a theory for this one: this SL live version is being made solely for the BWS female fandom, most of whom have no clue what SL even is—because clearly, the actual hardcore SL fans are not at all happy with this announcement. For his fandom, his looks, clothes, and abs *automatically count* as aura farming, even though they hardly know what it actually means. Once the drama is out, reels of his walk, gaze, and abs will flood everywhere with captions like “masterclass acting” and “actual aura farming” (they will copy-paste this from the internet)—fans can be delusional, LMAO. This constant circulation of clips and hype is pure noise marketing, and Netflix knows it will create buzz; that’s exactly the audience they’re banking on—hence BWS casting. As for Han So Hee’s casting, hardly anyone seems to care, since Cha Hae is barely present in the series.

Oh, thanks for the lecture, Professor “Overreactor.” Yes, I know the title has “food” in it, and I even acknowledged that in my comment. But here’s what you conveniently skipped: it’s still a drama, not a variety cooking show. If food montages are all it has to offer, I’m going to point out the lack of story and flat, mediocre acting — that’s called a review. But logic probably isn’t in your dictionary, so this might not register.
Your “why did it take you 4 episodes” argument is laughable. Watching multiple episodes before forming an opinion isn’t foolish — it’s how fair critiques are made. This might sound foreign to someone like you (ignorance is bliss). If I had judged it after episode one, you’d probably say I didn’t watch enough. So which is it? Too early or too late? Pick a side.
So maybe instead of getting worked up over an opinion, you could just enjoy your so-called “worldwide hit show” quietly. I’ll watch or critique whatever I want, and you can keep enjoying, crying, or screaming however you like, good luck with that.
I don't think that anyone is claiming that this drama is some acting or storytelling excellence. Personally, I'm…
When did I ever say there’s no story? All I did was ask whether there is one — because in the first four episodes all I’ve seen is the main lead cooking while the rest just eat (now you can scratch your head over it all you want, but that’s exactly what’s happening in the show). It was a genuine question, nothing outrageous. And just FYI, I don’t torture myself with “nonsense,” but apparently my simple opinion with a single question mark tortured you. No need to stress about replying though, I won’t be reading. Wishing you a pleasant day ☺️

Same goes for you — I hope you watch the drama with an open mind and open eyes, because that’s how you realize different people can see the same drama from completely different perspectives. ☺️
The acting in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty is mediocre at best. What’s keeping this show afloat isn’t the story or any standout performances — it’s the food, and all those glossy gastronomy scenes. Food is the real heart and core of the drama; take that away and it instantly collapses into dullness.
Yoona keeps exaggerating her expressions unnecessarily, while Lee Chaemin has been stuck with that same awkward tilted smile (or smirk, whatever it’s supposed to be) for almost 4 episodes.
And let’s be honest, the show is fixated solely on cooking showdowns — everything else feels like filler.Sure, the title screams “food,” but since it’s packaged as a drama, shouldn’t there be something more? At the end of the day these are actors in a drama, not chefs on a variety show. Four episodes in, with the fifth preview once again revolving around another culinary contest, can this drama really pretend it has a story — or are we just supposed to accept endlessly plated food as its grand narrative direction?
I enjoyed the first two episodes "Bon appetite your majesty" but for 3rd I just switched to 1.5x speed. Hope won't find need to do that for upcoming ones
So far, the acting is decent, but this feels like a slightly tweaked version of Mr. Queen. I have a feeling I’ll drop it after five episodes—these time-travel shows with food at the core usually fizzle out halfway anyway. Also looking forward to the romantic scenes, because while Yoona can act at times, these lovey-dovey moments really expose the weaker side of her acting—her expressions make it obvious she’s just going through the motions.
Lee Ha Nee is an automatic NO, the most cringe actress ever, much worse than IU 😄😄
Both Lee Ha-nee and IU are decent actors, though not particularly versatile, as they tend to stay within a single genre—Lee Ha-nee in comedy and IU in melodrama. The problem is that their performances within those genres often feel repetitive: Lee Ha-nee frequently falls back on exaggerated facial expressions and over-the-top dialogues, while IU’s roles are too often reduced to crying or shouting. These flaws are valid criticisms, but dismissing them as cringe overlooks the fact that they still manage to connect with audiences in their own way.
And let’s not forget my girls—Kim Dami and Shin Hye Eun—both beautiful, talented actresses who bring so much charm to the screen. The drama has been such a fun watch so far, and I’m definitely looking forward to the upcoming episodes!
