I’m not so sure. They keep drip feeding moments to suggest a different side unlike all the other villains. It’s…
I understand the perspective, but so far the subtle hints haven’t strongly suggested a major change or redemption for Jung Hyun. The story seems to maintain his role as a mostly cold and cruel character. I want to believe in it but I just can't. Honestly I don't know what to think anymore. Yes, that’s true — we still have half the drama left, so anything can happen. But I’ve definitely lowered my hopes to the lowest.
Many viewers including me had hoped that Jung Hyun's character might reveal a more layered or human side as the story progressed—perhaps even a redemption arc. However, based on recent developments, it seems the drama is committed to portraying him in a consistent role.
That evil woman's 14 year old daughter looks like Cha Woomin
I really hope Jung Hyun steps up and protects her — I just really hope he does. They showed glimpses of his softer side with her in episode 2, so I’m holding onto that. Fingers crossed!
It's understandable. But remember, for one, she was abandoned. And by that time, she also learned they were not…
I was confused too — she had a clear chance to take him down. He’s chasing them to kill them, and they’re constantly in danger because of him. He was programmed from an early age to be Kim See Hee’s cold-blooded weapon. But then I realized, it wouldn’t make much sense to kill him off so early since he’s one of the main leads. There will be a lot of conflict and intense fights between them. Honestly, I think the writers want to keep us feeling that tension. If she had shot him in Episode 2, the emotional stakes later on wouldn’t hit as hard. So now we wait — and every time she doesn’t kill him, it only makes the eventual confrontation that much more powerful.
My take: I think they will fight alot 1 on 1 and their fights will always end with one of them almost killing the other — either she overpowers him, or he gets the upper hand, but someone intervenes at the last second. It’s clearly building up to that final showdown where she’ll finally finish him off. She’s actually a really skilled fighter too, so I’m looking forward to seeing her take him down properly. I think there’ll be several moments where she almost kills him and totally kicks his ass — but the real, final shot? That’ll come in the last episode… or maybe just a little before.
Hi everyone! I’m really curious about Jung Hyun’s character in the original The Defects/Eye Shopping webtoon. Have anyone read it I heard it was really popular. Without spoilers, can anyone share how important his role is compared to the drama? Is he a main character, and does he have any kind of character development or arc? Give me tiny info. Thanks in advance!
I like it. I am curious if we will see his backstory and if writers have something more in plan than just coldblooded…
Well I overthink story arc of wrong characther Jung Hyun way too much like I and some more fans of drama said he could really step on the good side but since when I really like somehthing I analyze it and the less I belive he will wake up from See Hee manipulation. Don't get me wrong I am invested in plot but I tend to focus on bad hot vilians who's actor that portray him says that he has ''hidden warmth'' and until he proves it I basically go in circles until I see it for myself ''Oh there is no turning back for him!'' until then I seek the signs and it's tiring .😂😑 And now I kind of wish I did not read the interview and went to watch with less info. I think next week eps will be eye-opener and I will stop because this week Jung Hyun will show even more of his villainous side. There’s no holding him back — he’s clearly a villain. But definitely, this drama will show us how people can be manipulative and destructive.

Thank you for understanding me. Probably, hehe but then we share same interest in the drama. But I wish I could be like you about it because I overthink it way too much but you as it seems you are more grounded. I really enjoyed our chat—thanks!

Yes and you are right for that it's better that way for sure more grounded. I tend to make way to many theories and it can be too much so I need to take breaks but what is even more important is to find fellow fans who like the same stuff and you know you share thoughts or views on it and it's precious and fun time. So as I said when I really like somehing I can be a bit much so I'm sorry if I overshared too much. I need to calm down. 😅

Yes they are!! Another possible clue is what Dex said—that Jung Hyun was born with warmth that never vanished . He also described him as cold-blooded, deficiency, and warm, which seems like a complex trio meant to hint at something deeper. It could be foreshadowing... or just Dex’s personal interpretation of the character. Either way, I feel like that buried warmth might resurface—maybe as a result of emotional cracks or betrayal. Years of manipulation could’ve suppressed it, but not erased it. Whether the series reveals that soft side or not, the potential for it adds another layer to how we watch him. What do you think about what he said? But I can't stop wondering but I guess should we be also prepared for no change before so the revelation won't hurt as much. I think that is also something to think about because you nver know what something really means until you see itUgh, I just wish I could sneak a peek at the webtoon or find someone who read it and ask him to give us some tiny spoiler free clues—just one tiny clue would be enough to calm my nerves and reassure me.

Yeah I see that happenig since he has bond with her already right she calls him uncle and like that would be his reason to turn to good side and save her from See Hee with help of Ahyeon and kids, That would definitely be a major turning point for him. Also I think he’s not the main lead for nothing. I would really love this kind of turn. Her current daugher is already showing some signs of conflict and being careful that will show up more in episode 3.

I hope so too, but I think my two thoeries of what would cause Jung Hyun's change would be: 1. If See Hee were to abandon her current daughter, Kim Ahyeon. Ahyeon calls him “uncle,” and they seem to have formed a small bond—like when she put a bandage on his hand. 2. Or if he suffers a betrayal so deep from Kim See Hee that it shatters him, making him question his own existence. That kind of emotional blow could drive him mad with revenge. BUT yeah him ending the director would be really good.
And yeah, romance seems off the table at this point. But speaking of complicated characters — Jung Hyun’s…
Fingers crossed for that! But isn’t Kim See Hee the mastermind Ahyeon’s targeting—and Jung Hyun is her right hand? I feel like Ahyeon and the others will uncover her on their own by episode 3. They're already on the right track, and the teaser looks action-packed! I'm rooting for Jung Hyun to feel conflicted at first—torn between loyalty and his own conscience—and eventually turn against Kim See Hee. I truly hope he doesn’t go down with her, clinging to loyalty until his last breath.

Ooh that theory hits hard. I really want to see his backstory with Kim See Hee really bad. He uses him as tool she made him that way and like he is loyal to her they said loyalty thicker than blood. I feel like he’ll only realize he was just another refund or that she used him as tool and did ot see him as human being way too late… or maybe never. Not gonna lie by what i read in interviews I developed a tiny bit of hope he would change and turn to good side but then realistically speaking with such a short drama, I doubt he’ll get any redemption arc. Just my theory though nothing is sure. And in the end they will both go down and evertyhing else Kim See Hee built. It will be satisfactory ending or at least hopeful one for Ahyeon and other refunded children.
We see glimpses of it when he was with the villain's daughter
'' Inside him, somewhere beneath all the coldness and harshness, there’s still a part of him that can feel warmth or kindness — like it’s part of who he was from the very beginning, before all the cruelty shaped him. ''

Maybe Episode 4 will be the turning point — it marks the halfway point of the drama, so if we’re going to see cracks in his cold shell, that might be when it starts. Exactly… and the fact that Dex himself chose “warmth” as one of the core traits makes me feel like it has to mean something later on. He’s basically the main lead — and characters like that don’t stay one-dimensional. There’s got to be some kind of shift coming, right? I’m definitely holding onto that hope. But after seeing the Episode 3 preview… I’m not seeing any signs of change yet. It looks like it’s going to be intense — pure human weapon mode again. Still, I’ll be watching closely for even the tiniest crack in the armor.
I'm guessing we will get dex character's redemption arc
Yeah, I think so too. Based on what Jung Hyun said in that interview, it really feels like they’re setting him up for a redemption arc. .DEX: ” Choosing “cold-blooded,” “deficiency,” and “warmth” as three keywords to describe Jung Hyun, he elaborated, “Because of his deprived childhood, he naturally became cold-blooded, but deep inside, there’s still a warmth he was born with that hasn’t completely disappeared.” Did you change your mind after watching first 2 episodes or not? I am really curious. I will be happy to thear your thoughts.
