Hi let me explain. The short names are an informal way of addressing them to feel closer. if you notice only their close friends address them as such. its a Chinese thing for names more like acronyms "A" and "ner" idk how to explain further but the more historical dramas you watch,the more you'll notice this. "A" usually comes first before name while "ner" comes at the end of the names but they are all casual not formal.
secondly,the position of a marquis is the highest among Chinese government officials,Dukes are more like assistants to them,although in western culture dukes are the highest. so yes,Mingtan/A'tan father is of much higher rank. hope this helps👍
