i could understand that, his resposnse to that and how his dependency on his family led him to this situtaion, but if there is no growth- his character will seem one dimensional .i know it is really hard to fight back even one wants to. I don't want him to go on full fight mode just be little more active , a lil protest.

i know this is just a fiction. But i don't really like this kind of person. As a man of that time(1990s)- a whole family will depend on you and if you are just going to be puching bag how is your upcoming family going to survive. They will also be punching bag for his family.
From first hand experience of ny own family. My father not the first , nor last , not only girl child. ALways listened to his family( my grandparents, my uncle and myaunt)( he is very good soul, nice person).so in conclusion we were also treated like shit by his family. No financial freedom and all.
