while you may be only focusing on the romance/pairings, some people may mean that they're more invested in this couple's characters. like the one hiding his identity isn't hiding it from "his boss" specifically like you mentioned. He's hiding it from everyone as he has sort of self-rejection related to past trauma. And so on, Many people regard the deeper struggles of characters not shallowly classify love tropes.

I personally don't read omegaverse novels but there's a bunch of Manhwas breaking those standards, making either pretty alpha's or sturdy Omega's or both so yeah it's not THAT strange

So the dynamics are as follows:
- Hua Yong (an Enigma -Illegitimate son) × Sheng ShaoYou (S-class Alpha)
Hua Yong has a long-term crush on Sheng ShaoYou but apparently ShaoYou hates Illegitimate sons cuz his father has a lot of these, so Hua Yong pretends to be an Omega who's more similar to ShaoYou's type, Hua Yong probably think the most dominant known type (S-class Alpha) wouldn't be attracted to someone who's more dominant than him (Enigma).

- Hua Yong × Shen Wenlang (S-class Alpha)
In exchange of business profit, Shen Wenlang helps Hua Yong in his whole pretending-to-be-Omega game, makimg him his secretary & making Shoayou jealous and all.
Their relationship is alarming to people surrounding Wenlang as he's known for not employing Omega's and despising them.

Gao Tu (Omega pretending to be a beta) × Shan Wenlang
They knew each other since middle school as classmates and now Gao Tu is his secretary.
There seem to be unspoken reciprocal feelings between them but Wenlang hates Omegas so Gao Tu can't confess to him about himself & Wenlang thinks Gao Tu has a partner because of his leaves from work to handle his Omega lover's heat cycles (but in fact he takes leaves to handle his own heat cycles).

Gao Tu's father is apparently an asshole who wanted to make his omega wife sell her body to give him money and she didn't want the same fate to her child so dhe told Gao Tu to pretend to be a Beta so his body doesn't get used by his father as Beta's are less desired sexually so he takes pheromone inhibitors that are affecting his health badly.

I think they handled the introduction to ABO universe well in 1st ep but to break it down, there was a virus that caused people's body's to evolve.
- A blood type people became Alpha (dominant, can get omegas pregnant, S-class Alphas are the highest rank of dominance)

- O blood type people became Omega (can get pregnant, get heat cycles where they need an alpha to please them sexually or take inhibitors to release the heat pain)

- B blood type became Beta (less productive, the most common sub-gender and the most comfortable to work with as they don't get heat or rut cycles that may affect their work)

- Enigma (is pretty rare, like one in a billion so it's thought to be a myth - the higher level of dominance above S-class Alpha).
