Interesting story but female lead doesn't "sell" it. Surprising villain reveal
Who the villain is, was a startling but sad surprise.Lee Hye Ri isn't very expressive & her character is very hard to like as she's shallow & selfish. Male lead's character isn't all that great either, though at least he has a great back story that explains him.
The romance was lacking though there is a happy {wedding-less] ending for main couple.
Some plot devices were really really distasteful & unnecessary (bedsides making no sense so they seemed forced)
such as:
**** Spoilers***
Her first "ghost" was a child-when her boss later literally says about another child's funeral, that it's too soon for her to be in charge of a child so soon in her job experience , so ? That she is in charge of her father's body preparation !? NO NO NO ! they use that just so she can have closure, but honestly it was weird & wrong!
Male lead was with his ex for 10 (?) years -how can we not empathize with her ?
I did really like how all the people that she was in charge of [ ghosts] were related to a certain event, but I found it odd & confusing that the event had nothing to do with her, but instead had everything to do with her boyfriend.
[OK, that's forcing & taking intertwined-ness & destiny tropes a bit far !]
Disappointing,I kept wanting to fast forward.
This was a disappointment. I did not like Han Groo's character . I felt it was written poorly. Really her charms were very diminished. The comedy also was not to my taste. All the parents were portrayed as unlikeable as well. The romance relationships often made no sense & the character's back story trauma had me wondering why it was such a big deal. I wanted to like it & I pushed through, but it kept falling short & I kept wanting to fast forward.
Watch if you need a meaningless violence "fix"-twisted, dark & a bunch of people die
OK : don't watch it unless you need a meaningless violence "fix". Incoherent "slasher" movie waste has you scratching your head. Really it's just got a alot of people being killed & As for who the monster is ....you decide because there are alot of super evil people stuffed in this plotline and not one of them ends up without blood on their hands by the time it's over! This is an unsatisfying story, with a cast of characters you could care less about, [except, well, there is that grade school girl & she's a kid, so we don't want to see her die, right ?]There's no way to explain further with without spoilers
**************Heavy-Explanation/Spoilers**********
The female lead is mentally challenged & feels wronged by alot of stuff because she doesn't have the capability to actually understand (Autistic maybe ?) So she's like a 4 year old. But the overarching storyline pretty much revolves around a younger & an older brother. Apparently the younger brother has no qualms about killing, which he demonstrates as a 5(?) year old by "offing" his abusive "monster" of a father (relationship accuracy unclear) This younger brother will grow up to live reclusively in the woods, killing people (for hire?) then burning them & using the ashes to make urns (that he sells?) His estranged older brother contacts him & asks him to retrieve a cell phone from a young woman who is blackmailing his & her boss (boss hit her & she recorded it). Younger brother confronts woman & uses too much force & oops, she's dead. while pillaging the house, he runs into & kidnaps woman's elementary age sister (it is unclear if she knows where cell phone is). Back at the pottery barn, younger brother tells girl :runaway, I'll start chasing you when I finish this wine bottle & BTW-if you tell anyone about this, I will kill them too. Little girl runs into 2 orphan sisters & does NOT tell them anything-they take her home. next day all 3 are walking in the fog & are attacked by Younger brother (but, like hey??!! she told them nothing) he kills oldest (normal) sister but younger mentally challenged sister hits him over the head with a rock. She runs to get help but.....
OK, now the plot runs into problems because people are able to get places, locate others & survive things that is just inexplicable , impossible & unacceptably dumb [in the context of the real life setting that has no new (special) cell tech.]
Monster? they are ALL monsters
Light drama with just the right amount of romance, mystery , suspense & action
This was a light drama with just the right amount of romance, mystery , suspense & action, (for a light drama).I really liked how the theme of steadfast friendship was expanded throughout the drama & how they showed that social responsibility makes everyone's life better. I was disappointed with how they switch character attractions, but it was satisfying how things are worked out so you see that1) no one is leading anyone on , and
2) real love that will last is shown as knowing & respecting the other person as a whole & being sacrificial, forgiving, steadfast & deeply caring .
The plot was good for the kind of drama this is & the ending (& then the 5 years later ending ) was satisfying, if not incredibly romantic. My one complaint is that they didn't they let Lee Hyun Woo keep his blonde hair through out the series !
Sad, Snail paced, montage bloated but satisfying conclusion
Well, I went from "not interested" to completed & have mixed feelings about my viewing experience. This is NOT my kind of genere. I watched Mystic Pop up bar & Oh My Ghost, & both topics were out of my comfort zone , but they won me over. This drama was VERY slow paced. It was beautiful they way that the dead were remembered & respected. At the same time, the stories were also heartbreakingly sad with some parts graphically disturbing. ( I mean the subject IS death, so what were we expecting !?)The montages of the way the people died were mind numbingly SLOW.
The series has a satisfying conclusion except they give the impression that there is a budding romance between the autistic man & his long time friend which was nonsensical. I only watched it because it was free but overall it was not that enjoyable
Melancholy
Be warned that the drama starts with a suicide, which sets a somber tone for the rest of it. Overall , it's a rather melancholy story of the cut throat business practices of the k-pop world. Frustratingly, they never address what the manager's motivation is for getting the group going again and you never really get close enough to any of the characters to care
Buddy movie-Fun action, a little comedy & a good bit of intrigue-BUT....
On my third viewing of this I found the female lead, Kim Min Jung to be really unappealing in visuals as well as her character 's personality (grated on my nerves). So I lowered my rating . This is A buddy movie, but it doesn't feel like a true bromance . With a wiff of romance The 3 main characters are great & their relationship with each other transcends romance. Fun action, a little comedy & a good bit of intrigue. I watched this twice in the same year.Rating also reflects Points deducted because the politics got a little tedious . Additionally, I wasn't overly thrilled with how the ending was a choppy mess that was too open ended. Also, the "happy" ending wasn't as traditionally happy as would have been satisfying. Will I watch it again ? NO, probably not. I think one viewing is where the most enjoyment is....two at the very most. After that, the negatives float to the surface too often
unexpected charm, but has some gaping flaws. Bland ending
This has a certain amount of unexpected charm. The male lead's anger is mostly used for comedy but he goes berserk a few times & it is not pretty to watch. The female lead's paranoia seem a bit unfounded until near the end when you see why she's that way. I warmed up to the leads but the story lost me when the lead female kept pushing the guy away too many times. An incident made it hard to really like the lead guy I found the last 3 episodes a bit tedious & could not figure out where or why the lead female leaves for some time before returning. A very bland happy ending.**Spoilers******
Female lead's trauma is a result of being beaten.
which makes the fact that the Male lead he accidently punches female lead problematical
I wish I had quit early on .mostly creepy mysticism , evil & what not.
I'm just realizing that the more frustrated I am with a drama [because it didn't live up to it's potential] the longer my reviews!
I will attempt to chop things into bite size pieces;
1) First 3 episodes have alot of creepy mysticism , evil & what not.
It was hard to get through & diminished my interest
{ If I had known that the whole series would be mostly dark , I would never have started it.}
2) CGI guys should be proud for making an evil entity so scary I had to turn down the sound & look away.
3) Too much screen time given to incantations, swirling black & demonic attacks.
The male lead turning into the smokey evil entity got boring real fast.
4) Inconsistent boundaries of his "affliction "considering that early on the evil in him manifested whenever he was in the female lead's proximity-
[which changed later on as he cozied up to her quite a bit without any problems.]
5)Sooo much time is spent seeing them paint.
6) Around Ep. 13 they rushed some plot points with lame flashbacks.
7) What happened to /where is the crown prince ?
9) The magic painter helper said something secret to the female lead that we never get to know what it was.
10) It is never explained why she never went mad-we get some very weak nonsensical reason.
Will any of these things be resolved in the last 2 episodes ? I really didn't care by Ep.14
11) Male lead's character was bland & boring most the time & only got interesting when he morphed into the evil entity & then it's hard to appreciate his acting as he's mostly all blurry !
12) He 'accidently' kept physically hurting the female lead -Not exactly "couple's goals"
13) Lead's chemistry wasn't note worthy
*********heavy spoilers******
A) They actually never showed the crown prince as an adult and there is no mention of him actually dying. Previous king had miraculously revived only to say he was dying, yet 7 years later he is still lingering with the 3rd prince now the crown prince.
B) WHY is the 2nd prince still alive & in prison 5 years later-ridiculous! And Why does he still have demon stuff on his chest !!?
C) There is a 5 year time skip ! a few episodes before the end and the main couple's happy ending comes 2 episodes before the end as well. The last 2 episodes I did not have access to, but also, they started to go back to former plot points & it felt like those should have been part of episodes 13 or earlier, so the end of Ep. 14 was incredibly odd
Give yourself permission to pass
I watched this at a time when this genre was new to me & I hadn't found mydramamlist yet. So not only did I not have a way to "vet" a drama before watching, but I also was not in the mindset where I gave myself "permission" to drop a drama.I viewed this at Amazon video under the title :Love Mr. Right .
Where do I start to describe how wasteful a time this is ?
1) maudlin, depressing
2) Bloated-This story could & should have been completed in 20 or 23 episodes, because
3) by the time you get to ep 20 they are recycling plot devices & the same problems are re-re- resolved .
4)Main characters become more annoying than endearing .
5) Happy ending only occurs in the last few minutes of the last episode [& quite a few leading characters are eliminated along the way]
A nice feel good escapism movie that's at the top of my re watch list
Since it's a movie, it's hard to say much about it without giving anything important away. I've re watched this a few times already & will probably re watch it every 2 years or so. I gave it a 10, which is very rare for me. [I think I've only given that score out 3 or 4 times!]I like the setting. The sunny beach vibe sets the tone. The story is not complicated or melodramtic. The leads are good. The ending is good. I'm sorry for the generic comments, but I really liked it & more information would just spoil it for you. Normally I love to give out spoilers, but this is a breezy light feel good movie that deals wit a difficult issue, but doesn't deep dive.
A rather "miracle" idealistic, rather than realistic story of restoration to public opinion
The main character is bossy & rude.As you learn more about her you see her good qualities, but it's no excuse for her overbearing attitude. She & lead guy are equally arrogant but when tested their good qualities shine through. The lesser character's stories create a sober atmosphere . In the end, motives are revealed & status is restored. So this is a rather "miracle" idealistic, rather than realistic story. non Asians ; need to be familiar with just how powerful public opinion & sentiment is to understand & appreciate just how miraculous it is for a k-pop idol ,or famous person in S.Korea, to be restored to good public opinion & career once they have been tarnished by scandal , ostracized & shunned .
Breezy light romantic drama.Stunning Game graphics
The most unique Chinese-drama I've watched because it has none of the typical "tropes" & only a minuscule amount of drama. Basically a breezy light romantic drama. Parts of the story take place in a computer game & the graphics are stunning. The things that keeps this from a perfect score :
The actual ending part where the story comes full circle was nice, but the stuff they throw in before it kinda sucked the impact out of the ending
I would Stop at Ep 29
[when they are on the hill in the computer generated scene]
before; "2 years later" because the rest of the episode & # 30 have boring & unnecessary details about the roommates side stories (the plots alluding to 2 guys being gay, Wei-Wei's roommate's relationship with the jerk who caused so much trouble for Wei-Wei) ,& really, too much information on the main couple's finalizing their relationship.
----------------------------------------------
Note: when watching on Netflix I recommend ending the series at Ep 29 time stamp 30:11
Silly, but decent entertainment is enjoyable even though there are some plot holes
Forgettable, but not a waste of time. This is one of the better web drama series that I've seen. The story, acting and quality are all pretty good. There are some plot holes, and I do think that this could have benefited from one or 2 more episodes [so that those holes were filled in] but overall it's enjoyable and has a decent ending [if a bit silly]. I'd probably watch this again someday & in that light, forgettable is not necessarily a bad thing sometimes .
Constant Dirty language +"frank" discussions .Romance doesn't work.-meh- happy ending
I keep wanting to see Lee Seung Gi in great roles, but so far I have yet to see him in a drama that is better than My girlfriend is a 9 tailed fox .He plays nice push over who crushes on a harsh overbearing potty mouthed celebrity childhood friend (who has a married boyfriend). You're set up to believe they both fail at love because they are meant to be together. He cooks, cleans, picks her up when she's drunk. It was not great because it really came across that he might like being used/abused . When he puts his feelings forward & she has had her eyes opened to how great a guy he is - her whole personality changes (Wasn't the whole point that nice guy loved her just the way she was ?)
Constant Dirty language & the "frank" discussions make it too uncomfortable to be a romance. Kissless-meh- happy ending
