So, a late reply, sorry. I think in episode 1, Mike was not aware that Peem is dead, or in denial, and when they kissed, Peem made him feel like drowning/choking just like he drowned in the pool. Thats why Mike started to cough and gasp for air. There was a scene where Mike asked if he was faking his drown in the first episode, which Peem laughs. So when he was actually drowning, Mike didnt believe him, thinking that he was faking it again but ended up with the dead of Peem. Peem was already dead in the first episode.

I just finished it and I cannot stop crying...
