i am a novel reader and some need to realise that a novel is mostly one perspective and does not change perspectives very often while a drama is well rounded, showing all sides. srq's psyche was naturally interesting for a screenwriter to write and he played a big role in the finale. is there a reason he cannot have a spotlight?
40/40 and i loved loved loved the character complexity for even the smallest of characters be it hua yue or the empress. most of all i love how the characters were'nt flat and 2d. srq didnt just ruin it all, he realised it too late that he had lost everything he wanted to protect and didnt know what to do, his resentment and anger of the last 30 years had turned him into the monster which he thought li chuan was. and li chuan of the past, no words, the actor did so well potraying him as maniac, depressed emperor and a naive child in the present that just wanted to have a family and protect them.
and as for pwx's character development, i think most of it can be seen in the past. pwx of the past was lonely, longed for a family and pwx of the present will never give up his family with li rong. most of his actions have stemmed from his want for a better future of the empire and of his own family. he was there for li rong no matter what because he knew that no one else would be and that would prove li rong's worst fear right. that no one in the world was on her side.
