If this had been 12 or maybe 18 episodes max it would have been a much better drama and I would have given it a higher score. Skip through the 3 go around of the same plot to the end because I did like the couple though I did find the FL annoying at first I just kept reminding myself she was a 16/17 year old with a 12 year old brain (wide range of normal of when kids mature). Same with ML (his youth), but to a lesser extend, but would explain his moodiness (though her lying and withholding of info didn't help). I did enjoy the parts I watch (and skipped the parts I didn't).

As I never watch C-Dramas I have put those OST's on my list for a listen, so thank you very much for including…
Minglan is not your typical drama. Very much character driven like Hyena. Let me know what you think.

Oh, and thanks for recommending Hyena. Finished it in a day. Loved it.

I recommend starting with Story of Minglan. The music it unique and some classify the story as a slow burn but I was hooked from the first episode. Listening to the OST right now and writing about the series makes me want to rewatch the first episodes again. I watch the middle and ending episodes several times. Please don't be turned off at the number of episodes. It stays fresh (not draggy) throughout the series. Hats off to the scriptwriters, wonderful cast and the beautiful sets for that.

I have a lot of faves I listen to almost everyday:
I so agree--a drama or movie can't be a 10 without a solid OST.
Kdramas OSTs: When the Devil Call Your Name (in fact I was listening to "The Day We Met" when I logged into MDL, noticed your article and started reading it).
Also, love the OSTs from Chocolate; A Piece of Your Mind; My Mister & One Spring Night; It's Okay Not To be Okay
Kmovie OST: Mood of the Day
CDramas OSTs: TLTW: Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms (My first Asian drama); The Legends; Story of MingLan; Story of Yanxai Palace;
Then there are some OSTs that I only like one or two tracks so I didn't list them here.

Excellent premise and very well executed will an exceptional cast with amazing chemistry. Soundtrack was pretty decent a well. Great character development. I figured out the plot twist a couple of episode before it happened but the drama still kept me glued to each episode mostly because the characters were so well drawn.

I started this drama a couple of times and became bored and dropped it. But your review piqued my interest in these characters who come later so may try to watch again. Thanks.

My first, and still all time favorite, TV drama was a Cdrama, 3L3W: Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms. Still love Ye Hua and Bai Qain separately and their chemistry together and have rewatch no less than 5 times All of the characters are pitch perfect IMHO. Same for The Legends and Story of Minglan. Absolutely love Gu Tingye character (I think it's the best and funniest character portrayed by Feng Shaofeng). And all three OSTs are amazing and so original. I now prefer modern Cdramas over modern Kdrama though I've yet to find one that reaches the complicated relationships between the main leads seen in the Kdramas "My Mister" or "When the Devil Calls Your Name" and I think Kdrama still are better at original Supernatural stories "Come Back Mister" "Korean Odyssey" and "The Master's Sun" as well as "When the Devil Calls Your Name"

One thing I have learned with tv dramas is how to let go. This is especially necessary for Cdramas with 50-70+ episodes. If the story is heading to cray-cray land (or already there) you owe it to yourself, and your precious time, to bail. You can alway go back.

Update: Started watching "Go Ahead." I'm on episode 5 and it is so good. It such a unique story and all of the characters are well acted and have such amazing chemistry.

I also dropped all those mentioned above except Forest which I started when episodes were still coming out and just never had enough interest to go back to see the rest.

I found ETERNAL LOVE OF DREAM story disappointing (LOVE LOVE LOVED 3W3L) but also I found the main couple interactions were putting me to sleep (literally that boring) and several times not just once so I dropped that puppy around the 20-something episode.

Ditto on DOTS -- boring--dropped around episode 12.

I found Park Shin Hye is not my cup of tea after The Heirs and one other drama so anything with her I usually give wide berth but I did watch 1 or 2 episodes of Pinocchio but it seemed depressing. Dropped.

Thanks for this article.

Your review is spot on. Love, love, love The Legends. It's up there with my other two (also long but loved every minute of them) all time favorite tv dramas:
Three lives Three worlds: Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms
and
Story of Ming Lan
which starts out slow in the first few episodes (but then takes off and never looks back with its adorable main couple and assorted supporting characters and beautiful settings.
I love smart female and male leads and I don't mean they say they are smart on paper but they just end up looking smart because they dumbed-down all the other characters. And at least one of the main leads has to be sparkling or funny.

All three of these dramas, with their awesome acting, well written script and unique story lines held my attention for the 70+ episodes and that's pretty hard to do.

Thanks for reviewing.

All the below, except the first one, saved me from the "Dreaded Show Hole" over the last couple of years.
Eternal Love was my first Asian drama. After watching that series I was hooked and never looked back :-)

Eternal Love: Three Lives Three Worlds (not the sequel)
The Story of Ming Lan
The Legends
My Mister
Story of Yanxi Palace
When the Devil Calls Your Name
