I think it's because of the genre, Xianxia and Wuxia definitely attract more younger audience, and youth romance dramas also attract more viewers. LAR set the bar so high in those aspects.
This one itself is political, palace and power struggle themes with less romance. Fewer audience is fond of these genres.
