I dont get what you mean by disappearing and becoming the character
Well it's the problem of 30 character limit for the title. It means when you watch the drama, the actor detach completely from the real person carrying the role and becomes the role instead.
You'll notice this when you watch several projects of the actor and see how the mannerisms and vibe are all unique and different across projects.

yeah i hear this everywhere. like how good and enjoyable they find Stranger, but to me it was just okay. most likely because of the pace and the way the drama unfolded. as a law drama i expected a lot of court scenes but there were none of it at all in the drama as far as i can remember rather they blend law with office politics (corruption) and crime cases on the side. i guess it's just not the kind of approach i usually like, i like crime thrillers more, and the way this drama was presented was more on a psychological rather than crime thriller.
i do want to re-watch Stranger to see if my opinion of it would change :)

Stranger is similar indeed but when i tried to watch season 2, i realized that i have forgotten almost all about season 1. I have similar opinion about Stranger, i find it as slow paced and 'dry' as this drama. I have to watch all of season 1 again before starting season 2 sighh.
That's what I felt for this drama when I recently finished it. While the political part was certainly well done,…

yeah i didn't speak about how Oh Yeong Seok's death (point blank murder) felt so misplaced/miscalculated because he's such an important character that brought depth/colour to the show that when he's taken out of the story, immediately the show lost one of its biggest charm and everything went downhill. i think that happens at the end of ep. 12, so that definitely was too early for him to go!
very frustrating indeed, since i couldn't connect to the staffers at the Blue House or the female detective no matter how much i try. even when i saw comments rooting for the new Chief Presidential Secretary, i actually don't like him very much because he's all about the polls. give me a break, LOL.
any other recommendations for fantastic drama of similar genre that doesn't disappoint?
