I do give some criticism to the screenwriter, Zhou Ye, with some plot points she wrote in, but like the issue with show!Xie Zheng's mother and him initiating the divorce cancels out the -5 that i will give to her for the 108 lashes scene... like some things that novel!Xie Zheng did would not have made sense on screen. Lets be real, novel!Xie Zheng is mostly cartoonishly unhinged and impulsive...
