it has higher rating and high number of watchers but rated by less no of people. They don't count no of watchers and comments but rating and no of people vote for voted. mdl is not biased. They won't get anything by doing that.

It was after Arsenal Military Academy and Xu Kai and Wu Jiayan were most popular due to story of yanxi palace.
I think after this XK had controversy and was on verge to get cancelled until truth surfaced. It did damage his popularity to certain extent.
