If you want a plot driven story and deeper more serious tone with a splash of comedy... I would recommend Joseon Attorney. (From the currently on air historical dramas)

Just Between Lovers is one of my favorites ones <3 and it doesn't have a sad ending, but it's a healing drama, so, it's not a fun ride, it's heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time ^.^
