that here i'm unpopular opinon for me Phab doesn't encourage Maze to make it with Nueng (ok he save him but for what he care Nueng could never speak again to Maze that perfect for him ^^) i think he was trying to tell Maze to open up to HIM and that why he is a little sad because Maze doesn't think he need to open up to Phab but turn to reconciliate to his brother (that great but in Phab eyes it's ok so he doesn't see why he need to open up to me etc...)

Like you i don't really understang the "step brother" fight because in the same time they don't speak to each other they also praise each other n the novel the conflict is more deep and concern Nueng Mother death but in the serie that have totally non sense May be Maze is upset that Nueng choose girl over Bro and Nueng just upset that finally Maze was right that give up your dream for someone isn't the right choice
