I was wondering why Kang moo is still alive after all he has done. And yet here we are :)
He has tried to betray Soo Ho several times, tried to kill him and the other NK's several times. Always causing worse trouble than whatever Boon Ok has done.
I think people are misunderstanding where the pity/sympathy for Boon Ok comes from.
Yes, her family life is one reason, but that aspect of her life is shown for a few seconds, and mentioned only once earlier in the drama. The completely understand the tragedy of Boon Ok is to understand how she has been treated during the hostage situation.
There is a lot of parallelism being showcased in Snowdrop. These are meant to create a spectrum of which viewers can judge and view the different colors of the spectrum, form pure white, pure black, and everything in between.
Let me list a few of the symbolisms that show up in the show.
Black - Chief An
Upon finding out information, immediately uses it to assert dominance and change the power dynamic. He uses information ruthlessly and as a source of blackmail. His characterization is shown to be black toned. There is no remorse in his face at all doing these immoral acts.
Grey - Boon Ok
She sat on TWO vital information. And she only released the information when interrogated under duress. She knew the information very early on, but never paraded it around the other person, the same way Chief An does. It's easy to pretend that we are all mentally strong enough to not buckle under bullying and attacks, until it happens to us. Human beings, when backed into a corner, has a tendency to think about self-preservation over loyalty. As much as we want to think that our best friends will never give us up when they are backed into a corner, in real life, that is just not the case.
Grey - Soo Ho
Soo Ho pulls a gun on Young Ro and points it at her head. We only know she would not die, because she is the FL and ML. But replace Young Ro with another hostage? Who knows? Soo Ho valued his and his teams self preservation over the trauma it would cost Young Ro. Because of their status as FL and ML, we knew she would not die. Soo Ho did this so that the SK agents would drop their guns and leave the dorm.
Grey - Boon Ok
Boon Ok pulls a gun on Young Ro and points it at her head. We know that Young Ro will not die, for the same reason we knew Soo Ho would not shoot Young Ro. Boon Ok valued her and her new "family's" self preservation over the trauma it would cost Young Ro. Boon Ok only did that so that Soo Ho and Kang Moo would drop their guns and let Cheong Ya nd Gyeok Chan go.
Black - Hye Roung
When she feels, she is on the high ground (not even a moral one), she pounces like a tiger and bullies Boon Ok ferociously throughout the drama. She is a spoiled little girl, who with her posse makes Boon Ok's life miserable. The audience applaud this, and cheer on Hye Roung.
Grey - Hye Roung
Ironically, when Queen Bee sets her sight on Young Ro, suddenly Hye Roung is a cold hearted little girl now. There is suddenly derision for Hye Roung, suddenly, she's seen as the bully she is?
Grey - Soo Ho, Cheong Ya, NK Spies
Everything they've done at this point, whether its killing people, shooting at people, good guys or not, has been to make sure their families don't die. So it's understood, even sympathized. All their mistakes are forgiven easily with a few dialogues and a few tragic backstories.
Grey - Boon Ok
Everything she has done is for her own self preservation. Even the money that was promise, was not for her to travel to Germany, or to buy a house, but for her father. Even though, she is not the favored daughter, she is still trying to make sure her father does not die. But her reasons are not seen as noble as the NK's.
White - Kang Moo
Constantly escaping, causing trouble for Soo Ho and the NK's, even attacks and has a murderous intent for the other NK spies. Betrays and lies to Soo Ho more than once. "Awww, he's so handsome and funny!".
Grey - Boon Ok
Constantly allowed to roam free, and sneaks around and causes trouble for Soo Ho and the NK spies. "Let's burn her down!"
Is Boon Ok, jealous, petty, and immature? Yes she is.
But NEWS FLASH, so is most of the hostages. They all care about their self-preservation. None of the other hostages are looking to be Martyrs like Young Ro.
People keep giving excuses for Young Ro's character as "being in her 20's", or the hostage's characterization because they are "19-21 year old college girls".
Guess what, Boon Ok herself is only 25 years old. Not much older than those poor innocent girls. What sets her apart is that even without college education, she is still smart as a whip, and reads the room well. She is gutsy enough to try everything to escape death and prosecution.
Never forget, there are parents, family, and all of South Korea waiting to hail these hostaged girls as heroes, as loved ones. But who will wait for the telephone operator pass those gates? Nothing but emptiness.
Soo Ho, trying desperately to escape the dorm to go back to NK to save his sister = Noble.
Boon Ok, trying desperately to escape the dorm to save his father = despicable.
although i was satisfied when cheong ya karate chopped hanna in the throat effectively rendering her useless (she…
I thought there would be a longer fight as well. And that karate chop to render her unconscious was fairly bad acting from Hanna, almost comical. Not sure if intended that way.
In the show, she's just 25 years old, so she's been shown to be fairly immature, just like the other college girls in the dorm. So her childish, immature, sometimes selfish thoughts can be attributed to this. The other hostages and even Young Ro at times are shown to have immature and childish thoughts as well.
She's being built as a tragic hero, whose freedom/reward is being sabotaged by herself.
She tattled on Cheong Ya, because Dr. Kang betrayed her, and looks down on her. Plus, Kang Moo has already threatened jail time for Boon Ok, so she's hoping that her information will allow her to get either no jail time, or lessened sentencing.
From my understanding, Sooho and Kangmoo is not BL relationship. There's no love spark between them and It's only…
I was just thinking, the writer said this would be a Romeo and Juliet romance. And it makes total sense to me, seeing as same sex relationship is and was frowned upon in South Korea.
That is why, we see such pained tears well up in Soo Ho's eyes when he hears of Kang Moo's betrayal.
Even in earlier scenes, the sexual tension between them is so steamy, and Kang Moo is just being a total flirt with Soo Ho, who is being a tsundere.
RIGHT!! i tried to put myself in her shoes but she's just an obnoxious person, she's rotten to the core. being…
Sins of the father/mother, usually passes on the children. It's even worse, when people pigeonhole certain minorities due to acts of strangers who just happen to have similar skin color.
My ending was logical, happy, and closed pretty much every plot hole Snowdrop had.
But he's funny though and cute! :)

But is there more things we can do to make it more tragic? No wrong answers here.
Let me start.
In Ep. 15, they are going to show Boon Ok, burning Young Ro's paper airplane...
They have that met in the past trope that rom-coms usually have.
Because what Boon Ok is doing is not humanly realistic right?
