Who's weak exactly?
Ok, let's take it 1 by 1.
The brother. He IS weak in a way, but there's a REASON for why he's like that. He's not weak just for the hell of it. His mother raised him like a precious glass trophy, without being able to even learn how to ride a bicycle, afraid that if the wind blew too hard he would break apart and disappear, because she was traumatized after the death of her other son. Despite all this, he's actually A GOOD FATHER to his son despite not knowing if it's even his or not. You think that's a weak man? I disagree.
The husband. Weak? Because he's not aggressive and domineering towards his wife? He's clearly portrayed as a more sweet laid back individual who's willing to take a lot on his shoulders, especially from his loved ones, but that doesn't mean he's "weak". The guy is a super intelligent lawyer, a former marine and boxing champion and never once had to use that to show his "manliness" except as a last resort, which means he's content in his masculinity, but just because he's not a robot and cries because of his marriage going to shit, he's somehow "weak"?
The SML. Strong? "More smarter"? Ironically, that guy is the most insecure and weak among all the males in this drama, obsessed over a married woman, that rejected him countless times, who doesn't even bat an eye at him, clinging over a memory from decades ago which he can't move past, because she showed him a smidge of kindness and humanity. Yeah, real strong individual there..

Yes.Like most romance Kdramas, the ML is pretty much a doormat and a huge simp. This drama he gets screwed by…
The drama is not over. Did you even watch it until now? There's been countless flashbacks of their past where she showed her love and was very open and sweet to him, it's just that in the present their relationship was basically the literal opposite after their fallout with the miscarriage. You expect them to be all rainbows and sunshine when they were on the brink of divorce?

Does the writing make the MC appear pathetic or a pushover? Some comments here suggest or are they wrong?
Those comments scream insecurity. Hyun Woo is someone that doesn't need to prove anything to anyone (his accomplishments show that) and he's definitely not pathetic. I guess you could say he put up with her families constant insults and abuse, but that's just because of how much he loved his wife. When it comes to something that matters to him, he doesn't take abuse from anyone and you'll see that more clearly from the middle of the drama onwards. You could make the argument he's a "pushover" for his wife, but that's just their relationship dynamic. He's more on the passively soft side and she's the more domineering type in the relationship, which comes from how they were both raised..

What an asinine comparison..
No, it's actually NOT true. There's plenty of actors out there as if not more handsome than Kim Soo Hyun, but you don't see them having this same success. Why is that? Because while he's also handsome and that may be A reason for some viewers to tune in, most people watch his dramas because he proved that he can ACT like few out there can and anything he's in is interesting and not a waste of time.
