Japanese dramas never interested me but this one somehow got me hooked and it is actually a great show.

douluo is a completely different drama, unrelated to dance of the phoenix, they play different characters

the only romance that matters is zhao ge and xuan yi

Dont feel bad about dropping dramas or not wanting to continue; if you end up dropping, there definitely is a reason. Dont force yourself to watch it even if everyone says it is good. I definitely have my fair share of dramas everyone hypes but I just do not like and dropped it (The Heirs, Boys over flowers, etc) I dropped every one of the dramas you listed too for the same reasons you had and that the plots were just not interesting to me, or the leads were just not reeling me in. I am not a fan of some of these actors/actresses as well but I wanted to give the show a chance.

save your time for another drama!! a better one at that. XD

yea their chemistry is so great, I have only watched up to episode 6, but I have not seen any chemistry between the main male lead and female lead in my opinion

I want her to end up with Lei Ao but I do not think that is happening according to the drama description
