NiaoNiao must be one hell of a beauty to capture the eyes of LY, YS and even LBY... even when mocked and humiliated by those evil princesses it's always about her upbringing, background and character but never for her looks.

And if I may add this : LBY is a renowned general, we saw officials, their daughters and spouses obsess over the sight of him and won't hesitate to grasp an opportunity to mingle with him. When he went to her house for the first time even though his identity is revealed he was treated with respect and a grain of fear by her parents and she was nowhere to be found... Unexpected behaviour by a young lady at the age of marriage and her parents in front of an opportunity to get close to one of the most soughted bachelors in the capital... Also, the rumors about her upbringing and personality alongside their interesting faceless first encounter helped pick his curiosity if not like. Also, as LBY once said, he will only marry and love one woman ... A woman whom once he sees, will know she is the only one and that's what happened to him in the lantern festival and never forget that CSS is pretty enough to capture the eyes of LY, YS so why not LBY? ... Even the evil princesses mock her for her ignorance but never for her looks.

I know its long, but I wanted to highlight those characters "emotional" journey to be who are they now... And I am sure they'll become better in the future. Growth journeys are always my cup of tea
I'm really grateful to whoever made this masterpiece... If we strip this drama from all comedy and romance we will still have a beautiful ancient slice of life drama. On one hand, we have a very young girl, 15, abandoned, abused physically and emotionally by her own family... Yet, her inner compass was always pointed to the right direction... Unsurprisingly, she is cunning and scheming yet honest, pure, and rightful ... But most importantly, she never dwell in self pity, even when she feels at her lowest, she has enough self-esteem to be her own rock, her own protector, she realized she is the only one she can count on... Even when everyone labels her as rude, uneducated and unruly... She is smart enough to know when to strike and when to cease ... As LBY once said: she dares to love and to hate equally. She is willing to learn and improve herself, she is stubborn but never arrogant... She hold her truth above all and never deny whatever she feels, whether she likes it or not.
On the other hand, we have a promising young man LBY... Who is decisive, pragmatic, highly feared and esteemed in the eyes of others but equally honest, loyal and warm towards his loved ones.... He is an extreme character not by chance but by necessity... His family was massacred, betrayed and his mother (aunt wherever) abandoned... Even when he was taken by the emperor who is supposed to be the highest respected individual out there , he was ridiculed, harassed and was forced to toughen up, to grow up, to exceed all expectations, to emerge from the ashes like a phoenix, all while denying his truth, his name , his heritage.
Both of LBY and CSS backgrounds are pathetically full of emotional knots but equally admirable... They beat the odds of turning to be a disappointment, a failure and a shame ... Even though they are still work in progress, their journey is worthy to watch ... Even, if they weren't romantically entwined (at least for me).
I am thinking of collecting all the dialogues in the drama that I found inspirational... Like a guide or something (still a thought though)
One more thing I noticed in last episodes, when SS asked Emperor to punish WL who humiliated her previously, later…
She was and still (in a lesser degree) on survival mode... She always felt the need to identify people as allies (people who care for her or at least won't harm her) or enemies (people who harass, humiliate and assault her physically or emotionally)
