It was an active hostage situation where someone who was not actively in danger (Gap) could have called the police. The perpetrator (Goi) had a gun, and the police would also have guns. In this instance, they could have been effective and caught him in the act. The way it happened he escaped and was free to hurt other people (Tin) afterwards.

I'm really enjoying how mature both FL and ML are, as well as the open and honest communication between them. I love how they do not let misunderstandings and other people get in their way. At least it's been like that so far and I hope it continues to be so.

Both ML and FL are very flawed in this story but I find myself getting more annoyed with the ML. It is clear that the FL is not as diligent and dedicated with some of her work as she ought to be, but the ML doesn't seem to understand that he is in a position of extreme privilege of being able to do research because he enjoys and is good at it. Not everyone is as lucky and might just want to get a higher degree in order to earn more and provide for their family. He gets disappointed with the FL because of her seeming lack of academic aspirations, but she is just not in a position to do things because she enjoys them and is passionate about them, as she has to provide for herself and her sick grandma. (My opinion as of Episode 10)
