Astonishing. Consent can't be a thing when someone is this drunk. And supposed signals given (and I insist, supposed)…
I'm fine with all of that as long as it doesn't pretend to be perfectly healthy, because it simply isn't.
I think it's ok to enjoy pretty much any kind of content as long as you don't invalidate the negative aspects of that specific content and the problems it poses.
An easy exemple to understand : I'm obsessed with fictional serial killers and psychopaths but I'm never gonna try to defend their actions as the norm.
Storytelling shouldn't be hindered for the sake of social or political correctness BUT it should be handled with self awareness and that means incorporating the good AND the bad standpoints.
If you're a storyteller and you want your story to stand in the grey area, you can't just depict it as "white" or "black".
When I talk about "characters facing the consequences ", that means : them acknowledging the dark aspects of their actions /being called out by other characters / feeling and expressing remorse, etc... there's a hundred thousand ways to do it right, really.
I think you and I are well aware that the main problem with rape/ sexual assault in asian BLs is that it's too often been "used" as hot scenes (and only that) while simultaneously completely ignoring the problematic lack of consent and normalizing it. That's a perfectly valid concern to me.
I don't think your interests and mine necessarily diverge too much, but I must say that I'm troubled by your apparent quickness to dismiss this particular issue as futile.
To be clear, I'm enjoying this show and the story so far, partly BECAUSE of how twisted it is, and I think it's fascinating that they put incest in it, but handling such a touchy theme should be done with the UTMOST care and as much as the HIStory franchise is a reference in the BL world, I'm not convinced it has the shoulders to carry all of that's it's trying to, but I guess we'll see. What do you think?

Look, I agree that any story has the right to be told no matter how twisted the topic.
As socially unacceptable as it may sound, I don't even mind incest storylines or rape scenes at all (as long as they overtly own up to what they are and as long as they serve a purpose greater than just "hot guys going at it").
What I do mind however is people bending over backwards to classify what happened in ep 6 as consensual.
If you're not lucid enough to STAND UP, you're not lucid enough to consent to having sex with your sibling. Simple as that.
It might not tick all the boxes of what I would comfortably qualify as rape, I'd say we're in a bit of a grey area considering the pre-existing feelings between both brothers... But Xing Si obviously WASN'T ready to act on it, which Yong Jie KNEW and that's why he decided to get him drunk to have his way with him. And you can twist it however you want but that will NEVER be consent.
Just because you fantasize about sexing up your brother doesn't mean you would ACTUALLY be ok with it really happening. And his breakdown the next morning clearly shows he was not ok with it (yet).
To be concise, my stance is NOT that there shouldn't be rape scenes in dramas but that rape scenes should own up to what they are and characters should face the consequences of such acts.
Is there more???
Don't believe everything you read, guys.
It HAS to come out on the 15th at the latest or I swear my organs are gonna shut down.
