I think this Dr. Sell just brainwashed him into being the night god, because he said to his son that "the doctor" told him that he will be the savior of them all. He only tried to protect his son when he was sure that the bomb will explode and that his plan will succeed. But after that we saw that between his mission and his son, he chose the first one.
At the beginning his plan was to fake his own death and to be the night god without trying to live a righteous life. And no one would suspect him, if he's playing dead and hide meanwhile. That's why he wanted Huo Le away. I think he was in conflict, because he was brainwashed by Dr. Sell.
But I didn't like this plot twist either.

Is it just me, or Huo Le had more chemistry with the thief than with Song He? 🤣
