This drama brings to the surface the stereotype that Africa is poor and that we need a foreigner to come and save us. Just for a quick reminder, this is exactly the excuse the settlers used for colonization. “He went to 'Africa' but don't worry he's still white. The colorism once again linked to racism. I'm not even going to talk about the yellow filter, the music, the fact that they don't even bother to say the name of the country but call it Africa. In Descendants of Sun none of these elements were there, moreover in Descendant of Sun going to this fictional country was not perceived as a punishment whereas in this drama it is the case.
