Agreed with you on some parts there.I don’t think the Novel made such a huge deal on the Tea Plot or Torfun’s/Tian’s…
I can agree that the Novel and the Series each give something new/different for Reader/Viewer, and I really got the best from reading/watching both ?
As you mentioned, in the series, we get more of the village and their customs, which is very nice. We also see more of Tian’s passion for teaching. And we did get the improvised Airport scene which was REALLY REALLY GREAT.
The novel meanwhile, focuses a tad more of PhuTian. We do get a few more tender moments in the novel: - More (funny) jealousy - Some tender Forehead Kisses occuring before Tian went back to Bangkok - Real Kiss during counting the star scene It also stated clearly why Phupha wants Tian to go back home, which I think was executed better in the novel. While the airport scene didn’t happen (Phupha wasn’t there), the novel shows that Phupha was also trying his best to lessen the distance between them during the 2 years of separation.
Overall, I love both the series & novel. Both of them leaves me wanting more. And I love EarthMix’s portrayal of PhuphaTian. When I went to read the novel after the series is done, I can see that they have chosen the right actors for this.
Just FYI, the novel ends up with them together. My understanding is that Tian returns to Pha Pun Dao, where he…
Partially true. The show does it well by having Phupha let Tian go to USA to achieve his education while waiting for him.
In the Novel, Tian actually went back to continue his engineering study in Bangkok for 2 years after (Engineering is really his passion in the Novel). At this point, he knows that he does want to be in Pha Pan Dao “if only he would say he misses me”. He was about to leave to the US, heartbroken, when Phupha called him and says he missed him (call cut off after), and Tian pretty much sprinted back to Pha Pan Dao (to his family’s surprise), ensuing the Cliff scene. It was also revealed then that Phupha has actually been working hard over those 2 years to become a Major so that he could move to Bangkok to study and “lessen the distance between them”, which was touching.
So yes, in either case, they actually have about 2 years of separation, which was needed. I love both version. In one Phupha reassured Tian that he would wait for him, and he did. In the other Phupha actually doing his best in own way to “chase” Tian. On both version, Tian got the much needed time & space to grow as his own person and decide for himself what he wants.
I started out really loving this show and ended it with a different opinion. I do still think it's a great series…

I don’t think the Novel made such a huge deal on the Tea Plot or Torfun’s/Tian’s similarities (although it’s also a plot point there). It feels a tad dragged out here, which could have been shortened.
Though, still one of the best BLs out there. Mix/Earth acting & chemistry is superb.
Agreed. The kiss should have come sooner. It made their relationship unnatural. Also, the reason Tian left the…
Agreed with you at some points there. In the novel they did kiss before the airport scene. I believe the first was after the School Burning. Still, the airport scene is pretty satisfying to me, and the eye stares were kinda enough for me.
- The bad guy did get caught during confrontation. It was also mentioned in Ep10 iirc? - Phupha pushed Tian away not only because Mom wants him back, but because he didn’t want Tian to live off guilt. He wants him to live his own life and not just trying to repay Torfun. - In the Novel, Tian actually went back to Engineering school for 2 years. When he was about to go to the US for Master’s, Phupha called him to tell him he missed him. Tian then pretty much sprinted back to Pha Pan Dao (leaving his study behind) despite his mother’s disagreement. In the series, I am assuming that the mom would act similarly after he comes back from college. But at that point, Tian would have matured as his own person and no longer an impulsive kid ridden by guilt. So nothing the parents say could get in the way.
This isn't gmmtv's fault. They only kiss and get together in the end of the book too.
Partially untrue. In the novel, they only get together at (almost the end of the book too).
But they have done forehead kisses at several time beforehand: - Phupha got hurt - Thien got was sick
They also kissed during the Counting the Stars scene.
GMMTV pretty much dragged the Tea plot, which while provides us with some sweet scenes (E.g. Tian giving Phupha a tea bag), does drag out the story out of PhuphaTian.
Still, one of the best BL out there. Shout out to EarthMix!!

GMMTV, Season2, Special Ep, and a Movie please!

Though the scene at the beginning is very cute. Hoping to see more of them S2.
I also like Bing Wei x Zhe Yu. They’re hilarious.
With it being so close to ending
Hopefully they won’t cut the later cafetaria one (possible spoiler from BTS#4 if it’s not cut)
