The first reason why I liked this drama, and my biggest reason, is Zhou Fei. I love her badass attitude and her indifference to everything, with the exception of Xie Yun. I loved watching her grow throughout the drama. She started off as just a young girl who didn’t have any aspirations in life, other than maybe to gain her mother’s acceptance, into a heroine that is highly respected in the Jianghu. Watching Zhou Fei after she leaves the 48 Fortress was fun to watch. She learns so much about the world that she’s never seen before and grows so much because of all her experiences. One quality of Zhou Fei’s that I really, really liked is just how true she is to herself and her beliefs. From the beginning to the end, she’s never betrayed her values and stood by what she believes in. Many of the characters have been swayed and changed because of the circumstances that they were forced to deal with, but Zhou Fei always believed in herself and her feelings. For example, Zhou Fei’s talents could have garnered her more fame and respect in the Jianghu community. In all honesty, she has the qualities of what it takes to be a great leader and, if she did, she could’ve become the leader of the 48 Fortress or even the one who unites the Jianghu community. But she doesn’t. Why? Because she doesn’t want to. She doesn’t want to be a leader or someone of power. All she wants to do is be herself and continue her grandfather’s legacy of fighting against injustice and protecting the people. She doesn’t dream of being the next leader of the 48 Fortress nor does she want to be an important figure in the Jianghu. It could be that because she grew up humble and with little ambition that the thought never occurred to her of how far she could go, but Zhou Fei is content with just living how she wants for the rest of her life, with the addition of Xie Yun of course. I guess I am one of the few who found Wang Yi Bo to be a charming Xie Yun. Although I don’t buy into the chemistry between Wang Yi Bo and Zhao Li Ying, I do like the dynamics of their relationship between Xie Yun and Zhou Fei. I like that they started off as friends and acquaintances before falling in love with each other. I personally love it when love stories start off like this because it feels so much more natural than love at first sight or being bickering pairs. Although Xie Yun and Zhou Fei aren’t the most compatible if you think about it at first, but they do form a good friendship at the beginning and learn to trust in one another the more they get to know each other. However, it’s obvious that Xie Yun is the first to fall for Zhou Fei rather than her for him. As for why he likes her, it’s probably because of her unique personality and her sense of justice. As for Zhou Fei, I can’t really think of why she likes Xie Yun, but I think it’s probably because he keeps her grounded and gives her the push she needs to become stronger. Other than her father, Zhou Fei never really had anyone who supported her and gave her the courage to keep moving forward. Because of Xie Yun, Zhou Fei can gather the courage she needs to continue to move forward and grow up. This is also something she mentions subtly throughout the drama. Every time Xie Yun gives advice to her, she would comment on how similar he is to her father because he’d also give advice and guidance to her whenever she felt troubled and confused. But the best part about their relationship is not just how they support each other, but also how much they trust and are willing to sacrifice for one another. In order to help Xie Yun cure his poison,Zhou Fei was willing to search far and wide to gather the ingredients to save him. And for Zhou Fei, Xie Yun was willing to give up his royal identity and stay with her inside the 48 Fortress. To them, power and glory wasn’t important. Being together and following their hearts was more important, and that’s why I really like their relationship and felt that they matched each other well in the end.
