He plays the famous Lee Bang Won (King Taejong), who helped established the Joseon Dynasty with his father. Lee Bang Won was obsessed with power and righteous. A villain, in historical sense, like many Korean monarchs, I'd say no. His acting is excellent as Lee Bang Won.

Drama is set just before the Lee family establishes the Joseon dynasty (500 years and last Korean dynasty), ends the Wang family Goryeo dynasty. The main timeline in the drama is historically accurate.
