thank you for telling me! i assumed its their first bl bc i haven't heard of emotion studio like i did with idol romance but i've looked on their twitter page this is actually their 3rd production (2 straight series and this one)
so is idol romance like the parent company and emotion the subsidiary?
i'm lowering my expectations because it seems that this is the first show/bl of their production company, but who knows, maybe it is in the same level as to my star
story - good introduction so far, we get to see how everything happened without telling us the "why" yet which is good to keep the viewers watching. glad they didn't put unnecessary subplots because that would've been a terrible idea given the short runtime. what i would like to see in the coming episodes are more interactions between the two leads, preferably romantic, as this is a romance bl and not giving that to the viewers will leave them "unsatisfied". i hope they have a valid reason for the lead to choose the romantic interest and not just "oh i just like this new person". they also need to resolve the mystery of the painting and why he was brought there and why draw a painting. tbh i would not be satisfied with just a "oh so you can find your soulmate" or something like that. i hope there's some kind of plot twist, otherwise it would just be predictable and as result forgettable. this one is subjective and more of an opinion but the last thing i want them to do is focus too much on the story but forget the chemistry building between the leads, like, i want a lot of bl scenes that is also historical and NOT a historical show with some bl scenes if that makes sense because if i'm going to watch a historical show, i would rather watch a mainstream kdrama because it is more fleshed out with a lot of screentime to do it justice
acting/cast - in terms of visuals, they are perfect, they all look handsome and they look like they fit in this period and the casting director did a really good job. on the acting tho, i gotta be honest, i'm not expecting oscar worthy performance because let's be real, this is a bl web drama, not only few people audition for these roles, they also will not get seasoned actors that appear on tv. junhee stands out for sure, for the other two i would say you can tell that they are rookies, but i wouldn't say they are bad, i guess mediocre is the word? i hope to be proven wrong in the coming episodes and they pull off romantic interactions without looking awkward and "forced" because i've seen that in other bl before and it will definitely bring down the quality of the bl drama if the leads look like they hate doing romantic interactions with a man (like look at to my star, they look so comfortable with each other and it is one of, if not, the best kbl out there)
production - honestly, this is the weakest part of the drama for me... the costumes look good of course, but that sword prop looks fake af. the sound mixing is terrible on the forest scene, the ambient noise is so loud and it made me annoyed and i can barely hear what the actors were saying. the cinematography is hit or miss but more on the miss since some shots look awkward and some scenes are just shot in one direction, like we need multiple angles so that it doesn't look awkward and amateurish... the editing could be better, but i'm not bothered by it, same with the sfx. idk if i'm the only one noticing these things since i worked in production, but it was horrible and i hope they improve in the upcoming episodes because if not this will definitely sour the drama for me because i can't help but notice the details.
music - no strong opinion on this yet... i will need a few more listens but it definitely doesn't stand out but it's not horrible either... it's not an instant earworm like ace's spark but i can see it being a grower.

coming from someone who worked in production, producing shows even if its movie length is NOT cheap. the fact that they are able to come up with a drama at all while also coming from a homophobic country is amazing in itself. and they don’t even earn much considering most of their revenue comes from licensing fees (and ads but then viki also takes a cut of it).
it does get annoying when people complain about the running time all the time. you do all know that this is a WEB DRAMA right? they don’t have the benefit of sponsors like mainstream kdrama and thai bl that airs on tv. making 1 hour long eps for a web drama is just not a good idea from a business standpoint. how about instead of complaining, show love and support for the kbl industry so it grows enough that someday we’ll get our 1 hour per ep bl
