A double is someone that does things in place of the actor. You've prob heard of stunt doubles, they do the stunts in place of the actor. But the double in this case is more for checking the postitioning and the sequence of the scene etc before the actual filming, so that the lighting staff can arrange accordingly. It's to save time for the actors, so they don't have to keep making changes during the actual filming. In chinese they call it 光替, i guess it translates literally to light double😂
