Just finished watching ep 23. Man, the actor who played as the uncle did a good job because my goodness, I couldn't stand him ππ Like, even if he doesn't say anything, his face still manages to piss me off. Whenever he's on screen I just feel like punching him on the face π
I started watching this drama when it had like 15 episodes aired. Since then, I haven't missed a single episode--I'd watch it the moment it got released...but not today π I'll put this on-hold atleast till the angst passes π
Oh my goodness. I just finished episode 16 a few minutes ago. I went in blind with this drama, not expecting anything aside from the fact that its ambience reminded me of Hometown Chachacha. There's not a single episode that didn't make me bawl my eyes out ππ I really loved how the rekindling of Samdal and Yongpil's relationship was executed. In my opinion, it was a "slow burn done well" π₯Ίπ Their chemistry was subtle but it still made me smile everytime they both showed up on my screen being awkward and adorable together. And that KISS and confrontation from episode 9 was the last blow for me. The family-oriented aspect of the characters from Jeju was heartwarming. Although there were moments that annoyed me such as one of the Ahjumma's that just won't stop assuming and spreading rumors lol. But in the later episodes she actually grew on me as she became one of the FLs genuine supporters. The thorny path of persuading Yongpil's father to let go of his hatred and resentment, it was painful to watch but when they overcame it, it felt reaaaally satisfying. One thing that didn't make sense to me until flashbacks were shown: Yongpil never dated anyone after breaking up with Samdal. I understood it after they revealed the reason why he stayed in Jeju. The thing is, Yongpil never tried to move on. I mean, how could he when he insisted on taking care of Samdal's mom and even going to her exhibits, secretly rooting for her. He was locked in onto that mindset. A bit unrealistic, sure, but I think it can happen to anyone irl. Another thing that I loved about this drama was the writing for the last 3 episodes. It kinda reminded me of Lovely Runner where they ended the conflict pretty early and just focused on the wholesome stuff at the finale. I really loved how WTS did that as well. They gave us an uplifting and wholesome final episode. That being said, I disagree with the 8.6 rating, for me it should at least be at 8.9 or even 9.0! But oh well, MDL ratings aren't exactly accurate haha. That's the end of my loooong yapping, I appreciate you if you've come this far! All in all, Welcome to Samdal-ri is what an actual "healing" drama is. Kudos to the writer, director, and the wonderful cast!
I'm wishing her luck for taking such role...
10/10 for me π
