What I love about Ling Bu Yi in the novel is that he never give all the women false hope and he only loves one woman in his life.

What I like about Shao Shang in the novel is that she is capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.

Since the beginning, Shao Shang was unwilling to marry Ling Bu Yi. But because of the Emperor, she accepted the proposal. Shao Shang becomes infatuated with Ling Bu Yi only to be heartbroken later. But, I pity Ling Bu Yi too. Quite disappointed with the way things turned between Shao Shang and Ling Bu Yi in the novel. Don't want to wait another 5-6 years....to have happy ending....

I think it's blood oath ceremony. Ling Bu Yi wants Shao Shang to stay loyal and to keep their engagement and uphold the deal. Whoever breaks the deal, the deal is off.

The bite mark happened before the wedding (+1 year engagement). It happened after a funeral. It happened before the break-up. It was a sad & intense scene in the novel. Heartbreaking moments. :(

In the novel, the first time Yuan Shen becomes fully aware that he has feelings for Shao Shang is when Shao Shang and Ling Bu Yi breakup. When Shao Shang and Ling Bu Yi end their relationship, Yuan Shen starts to build good friendship with Shao Shang although at that time Yuan Shen already has a marriage partner. Later Yuan Shen becomes single again and it takes 5-6 years for Shao Shang to begin a new relationship. But then, Ling Bu Yi makes a comeback.

In the novel, after the 2nd engagement was broken off, 6 years later Yuan Shen wants to engage to Shao Shang because Shao Shang has become better person at the moment and suit with his future wife criteria. At first Yuan Shen thinks that Shao Shang is unruly lady and stubborn, that's why he never like her attitude. Yuan Shen always think that Shao Shang has never been anything even close to a lady. After years Shao Shang becomes better and better, emperor and empress always praise her, that's when he realizes Shao Shang has improved.

The mother doesn't want her to marry him because of Ling Bu Yi and his family:
-Ling Bu Yi seems to be heartless.
-Ling Bu Yi's parents are separated.
-Ling Bu Yi's stepmom is a problematic woman.
In order to reject the proposal and defy the emperor, the mother thinks that the best way is by saying those harsh words. Unfortunately, the mother forgets her daughter's dignity. By saying those harsh words in front of outsiders, definitely her daughter will be ashamed and her daughter will be the laughing stock of the noble ladies.

I laugh when the emperor ask Shao Shang to come forward.... That scene.... LOL
