Viki has different subtitle team assembled for every movie or drama so it's usually takes time to translate and all the editing process.

Viki even translates the opening and ending OST, that's why I always like VIKI eng subs

The best is VIKI (5eps/8) but they are late with subs, second one is VIU (8eps/8), WeTV is bad and they even used AI/machine translated subs

Yes of course, they didn't include the one night stand story between FX and BeiQi emperor (or should I say Empress), it's all about censorship and propaganda in China I think. I also noticed some differences how they potray the characters from novel into the drama

But I do know some of important story arcs in the novel that are not in the dramas. I will read the novel after they finished the whole drama (season 3 should be the last). Coz I’m really curious about his fav concubine which also his first love and they didn’t include her in the drama because all the censorship rules in China and this include the harem too

Yes I totally agree with you. There will always be a comparison especially if you have read the novel before watching the drama and this includes movies also. That’s why I don’t tend to place my hopes too high for drama or movies based on novels. Only will get you disappointed. In this case there are a lot of story arc that are not included in this drama since the beginning (if you know what I meant). But I still look forward for JoL since this is one of my all time favorite C-drama
