Maybe there is reference from the Monkey King. the monk is very useless and need monkey king to protect him all the time. but He is wise ,calm and can control the demons (IMHO)

Poor the FL.. she get criticism when doing nothing and then when she took Lilun weapon and smashed it .. Everyone hated her because they said she killed Lilun..
