🎬: Recently, there’s an interesting experience: I filmed the series Last Twilight at Khao Koo Ha in Songkhla. As of today, the homestay at the foot of the mountain in Songkhla has attracted tourists following the series, with over 200 people from 20 different countries having registered. What’s happening is incredible—tourism in the area is booming. They are taking people up the mountain to see the sights, and every day, we get messages like, “Today, people from Norway came” or “Today, people from this country came.” Recently, they even asked, “Can we build a monument for the two actors here?” It’s something they’re seriously discussing. It’s like, can this really happen? We have places like Jeju Island with things like that, and now we might have something similar right here in our own country. All of this is a result of Y Series.
👩🏻: Actually, I’m a BL fan (fujoshi) myself. hahaha 😂 I’m close with Aof, and we’ve been talking for a while. Then, there was this moment, as you know, where things have been a bit quiet lately, right? Actually, Maker Y is a production house that takes on projects. But, well, it was like, I mentioned that I had taken a course in international production coordination. So, I was like, “Yeah, I’m open to taking on work. I can do anything, really.”
Then Aof asked, “Are you serious, Phi? If so, could you do a BL series for me? There’s this one project I’ve been wanting to do, but I don’t have the time.” He’s pretty protective of it, but he felt like, “Okay, you handle it for me, Phi.” I said, “No problem. Phi can do it for you.”
It also happened to be a time when my Channel 3 project got postponed to mid-year. So, there was this gap at the start of the year, and we already have a team of staff. It was just perfect timing, so I decided to take it on.
👩🏻: Yes, because with BL series…well, we come from lakorn (the traditional TV dramas) world, and lakorn are long. They take years to produce, right? But BL series, they’re actually short and compact. So, the production doesn’t take as long. And it’s like an opportunity to, what do you call it, “upskill” us as well—upskill both myself and the team. Instead of seeing it as a crisis, we look at it as an opportunity to enhance our work capabilities.
🎤: Is it challenging for you to do a BL series for the first time?
👩🏻: Yes, the difficulty lies in the storytelling—it’s completely different from what we’re used to. But I really enjoy it! Even though I’ve had to revise my work a lot, I feel like it’s opened up a new focus for me. I’ve learned so much, from the script to the meetings and everything. It’s refreshing—it brings a new energy to the work.
🎤: Who are the cast? 👩🏻: The cast—well, this project was initially set up where we were hired as a production house. So, everything was already in place: the director, part of the storyline, and the cast. We took on the project to further develop it. The cast is JimmySea—they’re so adorable, hehe. 😁 Well, you know, I’m a fujoshi!
🎤: When will it start shooting? 👩🏻: It’s getting close.
🎤: Will there be cute and romantic scenes? 👩🏻: There are cute and romantic scenes, but as we discussed, every romantic moment needs to have meaning. It’s not just fluff or passing moments. While it has the vibe of a romantic comedy, Maker Y’s signature style also incorporates drama. So, every cute and romantic scene in the series will have depth and purpose behind it.
🎤: There is fierce competition in the BL market. 👩🏻: Yes, I mean even within GMM, there’s so much competition. We focus on doing our part as best as we can. If the industry thrives, the people working in it can thrive too. But if we keep competing against one another just to win, it’ll be exhausting. At this point, if we compete to produce quality work that helps sustain and revive the industry so that everyone can return to living their lives, that should be a more meaningful goal than competing against one another.
🎤: Do you feel pressure? 👩🏻: There are definitely high expectations, and honestly, there’s pressure because this is a project featuring Jimmy and Sea. Their previous project, Last Twilight, was a masterpiece that swept awards on every platform. At first, I felt quite pressured, wondering how we could measure up, especially since I’m new to the BL series genre. But then I reminded myself that it’s not about competing with past works.
As a producer, my role is to focus on creating even better projects, helping the cast reach greater heights, and giving people opportunities to explore fresh, creative work. So, as a showrunner, my responsibility is to push the team forward, ensuring that everyone can grow and go even further.
🎤: Who’s the director? 👩🏻: The director for this project is Kru A, selected by GMM. I’m really happy about it because I’ve never had the chance to work with Kru A before. This is our first collaboration, and it’s a great opportunity to work with someone new.
