Technically the novel's ending is the wishfull thought he tell the prosecutor, lets get maried, have kids and what not. The novel and the drama are both writen differently, not just the ending. The drama called for this ending, while the novel called for its own. In the drama, everything that happened in the original timeline has to happen, so we already knew that DoJun would die.

Giving how the drama was written, this ending makes more sense than the one from the novel. I thought it was a perfect way to end it.

I think you missed something, he dumped his girlfriend because of his own guilt (first because he broke his promise to his brother, and second he failed to save him at the hospital). As for the girlfriend, she was using the operation room to save the ''killer'' while knowing that the kid involved in the same accident was on his way to the hospital, not knowing it was the brother of her lover. Both feel guilt and seeing each other just reminds them of that night.
Although I agree that the killer's stupid twist made no sense and they made Hea Anh so dirty for no reason. also, it does deserve your rating.
