(Edit after writing the body of the comment: The other people are making me go full auntie mode. So any comment…
yall people would defend a squirrel if it's a chinese, defending a girl who has a questionable career is a choice. who gaf she can act? there are dozen of actress who can act but have no chance to showcase their talents because they are not nepo baby. MINOR this MINOR that, then go tell that girl like minor not like grown women. oh my god, yall have sympathy for everyone and its disgusting.
Same here . I read the novel and I am so excited when I heard Dudu got FL role bcoz it is FL centric and FL holding…
Exactly! Their egos can't even handle being second billing in a women-centric drama, and that's why I just can't be excited for this one. Also, let's focus on hyping CDL only. Until the drama airs, nothing is guaranteed for her, so we shouldn't let anything or anyone distract from that.
I really do agree with you in this statement, I'm not shading anyone but the misogyny part is so true...I also…
This is exactly what I’m talking about. In male-centric dramas, female leads are just there, barely existing. But when it’s a female-centric drama, suddenly the male lead gets equal billing. Erasing other male characters just to give more screentime to the male lead literally proves my point.
Yes, I’ve noticed this trend, and honestly, this is why I’m so tired. It’s not just the dramas. I also blame the actors and their agencies for having such huge egos that they refuse to accept second billing in a female-led story.
I only disagree with your last point. I have no problem with Zhou Yiran personally. He and CDL could have had a great working relationship, and that’s fine. But the fact that he gets equal billing and the story is being changed for that is just disrespectful to the original work.
And I’m not even gonna get into the Weibo drama, like his fans calling the actress old or whatever. Honestly, I would’ve preferred a less popular male actor with no script changes over this male lead, to be honest.
Anyway, thanks. I’m really enjoying this conversation with you.
The novel had layers of emotional complexity, political tension, and a beautifully flawed heroine who didn’t need to be 'balanced out' by a male character’s arc. But in the drama, not only was the male lead given equal billing, entire male characters were reworked just to inflate their presence. Why? Because apparently, even in a female-led narrative, male actors’ egos can’t handle taking second billing. It’s also telling that the production team clearly paid attention to the opinions of the male lead’s fans, but completely ignored the concerns of the female lead’s fanbase — which only proves my point even further.
I'm a huge fan of the novel, so I really wanted to express my feelings. When I first heard it was being adapted into a drama, I was excited. But then I found out they gave equal billing to the male and female leads, and even removed some male characters just to give more screentime to the male lead.
I don’t hate any of these actors, but I do hate how fragile some male actors’ egos are—apparently they can’t handle getting second billing in a female-centered drama. If their teams want them to get top billing, they should cast them in male-centered or ensemble dramas instead.
I've been watching C-dramas since 2009, and back then, even top actors had no problem taking on supporting roles in stories centered around women. Now, female-centered stories are constantly being reshaped to give male leads equal billing, even when it doesn’t serve the narrative.
I can guarantee that there are thousands of talented newcomer actors who would gladly take those roles, even with second billing. So yes, I hate this trend.
Please don’t tell me 'It’s not out yet, let’s wait and see.' I will watch it, but I still want to express how frustrating it is that male actors can’t seem to accept a supporting role in a female-centered story—meanwhile, I’m currently watching a drama where the female lead is basically reduced to a supporting character. The misogyny is just everywhere if you want to see.
No one can tell you that because it needs to be investigated first. The problems are with her parents, children…
Her parents use this money to manage her career, which makes her entire career questionable. So let’s not talk about her like she’s some innocent little victim who gets to walk away from everything.
I always wonder how she gets main roles in those high-budget dramas while senior, talented actresses struggle to get lead roles. It's disgusting. Don't say her acting is god she deserves it, if acting good was the reason actors get high budget dramas trust me half of the traffic actors wouldn't be that popular.
