this bl has everything I hate in BLs lol. crazy how they managed to make such an unlikeable drama with a relatively popular theme (mafia + trophy babe)
to start off, the acting is so forced and awkward. the main leads have NO CHEMISTRY. Cherry's character is the classic antagonisation of women in bls yikes. the directing is so old and cringy. Now, this one might seem weird but the series feels empty?? like yes, there are sets and things going on but at the same time, it feels like nothing is on screen in terms of both set and action. the characters are very one-dimensional and flat and the set just doesn't have enough props to keep me engaged.
now let's address the elephant in the room, the love-making scenes and their take on BDSM. to put it simple, pathetic. I cringed so hard during their "unforgotten night", hope time eventually allows me to forget it. the leads having no chemistry is partially responsible for the mess but the directing is the devil cuz WTF???? so outdated and cringy! also, it doesn't add up that a MAFIA BOSS can't seem to find one masochist lover???
the last issue I have with this drama is that no one's making me root for them. so far (ep5) no character has enough character to charm me idk.
++don't compare it to kinnporsche people! you're just raising people's hopes to crush them into filth.
these mafia dudes should find another job cuz this ain't cutting it.
I admit that I've avoided this drama for a long time bc I was prejudiced against the lead acting. However, after giving it a shot, it turns out it's a hidden gem. I'm surprised by the negative reviews of those who did watch it. I admit it was sometimes sloppy with the leads' acting, but overall it was tolerable and enjoyable. I also like how healthy the male characters were, no toxic tropes were celebrated and that's impressive. I LOVE Do San, he's such a sweetheart. that being said, I do think the plot could've been altered a little bit to maximise its brilliance but it was tolerable. one this I hate is that we did not witness a discussion about the implicit allusion to the stepdad abusing his wife. Also, I wish they would've explored more into the abusive nature of these sponsors, I hate how eric faced no consequences but again this makes it realistic. nonetheless, it's still a great drama, I slept on it lol. I think I'll stop avoiding NJH in the future, judging by this drama and his last one, seems like he put some effort into his acting, I was in disbelief while swooning over his character. Suzy also seems to be improving.
