The soundtracks are really surprising. For a mini series like this, there is bunch of popular OST singers with beautiful songs. Its a pity that this drama is kinda slow and it didnt connect with me. They just chit chat inside the room and the discussion is not interesting. Its just like a slice of life drama with no purpose story. The only positive thing that I loved is only the OSTs.

2016 was the best year for kdramas. So many legend titles were born in that year. DOTS, Goblin, Moon Lovers, Legend of The Blue Sea, Weightlifting fairy Kim Bok Joo, The K2, Signal, W Two Worlds, etc. 2017 is a good year for Kdramas. There was many good dramas like Secret Forest, Voice, While You Were Sleeping, Strong Woman DBS, Fight for my way, Chief Kim, Suspicious Partner, etc. Actually many good dramas also come in 2018+ above. For example, In my opinion please noted, Crash Landing on You, True Beauty, Start Up, Homecha, Mouse, Beyond Evil, Flower of Evil, etc.

Title Monstrous
Ugh does anyone know of any dramas/movies/shows that ACTUALLY focus on occult, mythology and horror aspects better…
IMO, kdrama "The Cursed" is very good (12 ep). You can try it. "The Cursed" is about shamans use "method" to curse others with mythology aspects like japanese traditional demon. East asian folklore and shamanism occult also there.

DONT attack me for being honest to this drama. I have quite high expectation about "Monstrous" especially because this drama had initial pre-release in Cannes. But the reality hit me and it didnt meet my expectation. Its very...BLAND. It had a promising start but executed badly in the middle and become chaos in the end. The standard cinematography with misty yellow filter was not helping in create "ominous" atmosphere, instead it became blurry and people were hard to see what happened in the crowd. This story also didnt have good delevoping characters. So its hard to connect with them. With zero emotions, how can we have sympathy or emotion roller coaster with the characters? People tend to blame the "Shorter" episodes (6 ep = 3 hours more). If we compared it with Dark Hole and The Cursed, yes, both of them is better because it had time to developing the characters (12 eps) and create more ominous situation in entire town/city/village. But its not an excuse to create bland story because of duration or number of episodes. Look at Hollywood movies "Birdbox" (2 hours) and "A Quiet Place 1 & 2" (1 hour 30 mins). They have MORE limited time to explore all the conflict and deadly fear in the story. But its quite good. Especially Birdbox (coz this one had similar main plot with Monstrous), people in birdbox also cant see "something" with their eyes or they will become crazy, attack each other and attempt suicide. But they can execute it very nice, we can feel the thrill and fear plus there is a peak of events when the protagonists tried to get out of their zone because of worst situation. So, its a pity for monstrous to wasted the great potential behind this kind of genre script.

2022 is giving us so many good kdrama
Yes. But 2022 also give some overhyped dramas. Most people expected something more when see popularity and high traffic actors and actresses. And when the airing date is coming and they started watch ep by ep. The reality finally hit them. Its not as good as they expected before. They said its boring, overrated, cliche, and etc. For example, Thirty Nine, Forecasting Love and Weather, Now We Are Breaking Up, and even Our Blues. But the things happened upside down for dramas that people didnt have too much expectation. It turned out so good and many people loved it. For example, Business Proposal, My Liberation Notes, Again My Life, etc. Shooting Star is a decent drama (put aside the controversy). I hope it will continue until the end.

Kill Heel and Yumi Cell also 14 episodes. Other kdramas are even have shorter like they have around 6 - 12 episodes.…
But the negative effects for shorter episodes applied for some netflix dramas. For example, Netflix productions mostly are designed for several seasons. Thats why the ending is kinda shit. Cliffhanger. Open ending. And many people are complain about this ending factor. Disney and TVING now released some mini series like Grid and Monstrous. But look at the ending. It gave us similar vibes to Netflix originals production. Open ending with the chance of continuation of second season. But the audience cant be sure about that coz no official news yet. Thats why this kind of ending pissed off many people. But its different with Yumi Cells (TVING), from the beginning, the producer already confimed the second season, so viewers can relax and waiting for next one. Fortunately, its not happening in kdramas from tvN, Jtbc, and other national television dramas (KBS MBC SBS). They can release only 12-14 ep but they can wrapped up the drama with clear ending. Like happiness, business proposal, kill heel, etc.

Let me correct some of your statements. Not every adaptations are shorter than usual episodes, for example True Beauty (16 ep), Again My Life (16 ep), Lovers of The Red Sky (16 ep), Red Sleeve (17 ep), WW Secretary Kim (16 ep), My ID is gangnam Beauty (16 ep), etc. And original script also can have shorter episodes. For example Kill Heel (14 ep) is not adaptation. Happiness (12 ep), Bad and Crazy (12 ep), Thirty Nine (12 ep), Grid (10 ep), Monstrous (6 ep), etc are also not adaptation. It depends on the script writer and the producer. But this shorter format become more popular from half of 2021 until now 2022 because it had positive feedbacks. Shorter means no dragging and have more solid episodes. Especially Netflix mini series method got booming everywhere. Plus, the method had less risk about covid infection. For example, Again My Life (16 ep) had to postpone the filming because of Lee Joon Gi covid test result was positive. If AML were 12 eps only, They are already done for filming.

why is there only 14 episodes shouldn't it be 16?
Kill Heel and Yumi Cell also 14 episodes. Other kdramas are even have shorter like they have around 6 - 12 episodes. Nowadays, kdramas tend to release shorter number of episodes because of many factors. One of them is they can finish the filming faster and the chance they got affected because of covid situation is reduced. Plus, we have positive things about it. The plot is less dragging and become more solid. We also got more titles because the airing period is shorter than 16 or 20 eps.
