It is showing some bipolar behavior but I think vegas was trying to please pete at the beginning but with time he might have grown more annoyed with venice. We are rushing a bit with the entire " he left pete to die " he was dragged and forced out by Porsche he didn't leave him and he may run back

I read the sequel and I don't think it was that bad but there is room for more improvement specially that sex scene cause that is rape and it made me uncomfortable knowing they are in a relationship and it was supposed to be seen as romantic. But other than that I think the whole chapter actually makes sense in the novel-canon at least. I mean this is the continuation of the last book of KP which was Vegas and porsche teaming up to kill korn. Like we can't really expect Vegas and Pete to be a cute little family immediately right after all that emotional turmoil that they experienced and they both have their own flaws and insecurities. I think It only makes sense that vegas will fall into that possesive behavior since he is being forced into parenthood that he most likely have toxic ideas about because of the way he was raised by his father. After all he didn't even want Venice in the first place he was so close to throwing that baby into foster care if it wasn't for his love for pete so that baby should be gone 😬 And it also makes sense that pete would think vegas is cheating on him because of his undealt insecurities specially towards porsche but Vegas is obviously lying to protect pete. I think the chapter actually makes sense for their characterisation in the novel besides the rape part, that sex scene wasn't supposed to go that way.
