This is the Director's story. He's the real Jia Han.
I don't know about real Birdy they didn't share much to respect his privacy. No I don't think the director is married. Here's some interesting parts of his interview with Time.
" The particular arc of A-Han is about â80%â based on Liuâs own experiences. âOriginally, my intention wasnât to make a gay film, it was to make a personal film,â he says. âThis is about my first love, and my first love happened to be a story of a boy liking another boy.â
" When Same-sex marriage between citizens became legal in Taiwan on 24 May 2019, the historic milestone brought with it some mixed feelings for Liu. âWhen I saw people celebrating on the streets, I actually felt a little bit sorrowful because for the people from my generationâwho were born in the â70s, for exampleâit may be too late for them,â he says. Many were not able to catch what he calls the âtrain of happiness.â
" When I started to produce this film, I was thinking about whether I should come out to my mom,â he says, His mother comes from a conservative background intertwined with her church community. At the beginning of the project, he kept details about the movie and said it was about âtwo young people falling in love in high school.â But during this past Chinese New Year, Liuâs mom brought out a bag of gold and said it would be his once he gets married. âI donât know where my courage came from, but I decided to tell her that Iâm actually gay and Iâm not going to marry a girl,â Liu recalls. She was initially shocked, but, referring to Taiwanâs recent policy changes, she changed her tune. âItâs fine,â she said. âI think now you can get married as well.â

He said in an interview that Birdy is still married in real life and they aren't in touch. The director wasn't fully out, but he came out to his mom after making this movie when he was almost 50
Tried to watch the whole thing, but it's just hard watching a 1.5 hours conversation in one location without getting bored. And the conversation wasn't interesting enough to keep going. The acting was great tho, But please don't lie to yourself with the " Certainly not for the less complicated minds " bullshit. It's two people talking not physics, You're not smarter for liking this.
errm... bromance is usually between two straight guys???
Did you watch any bromance movie/show before to know the difference? A bromance means straight friends showing some affection and love to each other. which wasn't the case here. For me their friendship was lacking emotions to call it a bromance. I can recommend you things to watch to know what I mean. It's just my opinion guys and it doesn't matter. the movie is great if you see it a bromance good for you.
I wonder why they recorded their dialogue separately and then added it to the scenes! Some scenes weren't even in sync with their voice it almost felt like I'm watching something dubbed. But I enjoyed the ride. The first half was strong, the second was kinda slow with a tragic out of nowhere ending as usual, but man they're so cute together! Hoping for a second season.
