i dont understand d politics in the law firm - how can she go from being considered for partner to being demoted?…
It’s not a demotion. QS has moved to the partner’s level but she is on a 3 months probation as she has equal number of votes as another guy. The partner’s position is between them and whoever come out on top with their performance after 3 months will be the permanent partner. If her boss voted for her as she promised QS would have been the next partner but she didn’t vote so it’s 3 each. There were originally 2 partners positions but TJH took one when he joined the firm so there was only one left.

It was part of the agreement, that’s why QS’s boss asked her “what did you do to upset WF?”and QS didn’t want to tell her that TJH was her ex-fiancé as it will expose her and her marriage/child story. The reason WF and TJH are so mad at QS because they think she cheated on TJH and broke up with him when she was pregnant with someone else.
