In Asian culture, family does trump all... A uni crush might leave you, but your family will always be with you. Also, many parents don't takes college/uni student seriously. I know a couple who broke up after uni because the girls parents did not think the guy was good enough, cause he was poor and his dad had left them as children.. he was heartbroken... And still can't think about the relationship...
