As someone who read alot of angsty novel I found it especially good. When reading those kind of story you basically wait to see the redemption arc more than the story and it either give unsatisfactory groveling or both end up forgiving each other after a long torture and those scars can't be erased. So if the author want them to end up together why all this emotional damage for both parties.
