Because chinese like costume more, and with the restrictions of the government many genre are forbidden like no fantasy on modern drama. No talking about drugs, gangs and prostitution etc. Even if you have a good story you can't air it without the higher up approval. Costume drama tend to have big budget thats why you see them alot, and I also was thinking the same but checked their wetv Twitter and found 20 drama are modern and 14 are costume. Like I said costume is hyped more.

I checked everyone on the list 😂 He worked with Landi two times in Never gone and Adoring. Speaking of long carrer, I admire his positive attitude toward life. Even after struggling on the circle for more than 10 years and didn't see the fruit of his hard work till the last 3 years, he didn't find those on vain but it honed his skill and character. Working with senior actors and learning from them also helped him alot.
I noticed that most of the crew members had worked with Jianci before this drama. Even though this his first time cooperating with Hanyu but years ago they apeared on dancing show and were hilarious together, maybe they're friends in real life. I look forward for the BTS more than the drama 😅.
