I'm very excited, it's been a while since I watched something from Taiwan and I missed it. I'm really enjoying this series. The first 2 episodes are solid, the series is very easy to like, the plot is interesting, the acting is good, the dialogues are great, the visuals and the appeal are definitely there too. So, regardless of how this story ends, I'm honestly so happy this has such a fantastic start!
I think I've been watching the uncut version all along.
First things first, I admit I had to watch it on 1.5x or 2x speed, it was necessary, in my opinion they took way too long to actually show the attraction was mutual instead of one sided (not kidding, I feel they took like 6 episodes to make me say, oh yeah, there is mutual interest the fuck), the good thing is that I liked their chemistry and interactions by the end of the series!
So, I think with the right playback speed and if you can turn a blind eye to some things that are either irrelevant or not developed enough in the story then you will enjoy the series!

I mean, my yogurt is thicker and better than this plot, but I enjoyed the visuals, his lips are so plump 👀💋and if you watch it at a higher speed, like 1.5x, it becomes something ok to watch while you eat cereal or a cookie. For me, it doesn't have a rewatchable value I'm afraid but I kind of enjoyed it by the end of it!
yeah, well of course I would love a plot thicker than my yogurt but whatever I'm enjoying the visual and their interactions far too much! I get aroused every time they are together 😂
For me, artists who attempt to break through a veil of censorship are worth supporting. As we all know, in China…
You see, a series can be successful without the need of categorising it in the wrong genre.
The series is good, and I hope it keeps doing tremendously well but for me it was a bromace first and then you have to go all "well they look suspicious, are they, yeah I think they are, even if they don't tell me explicitly" on them by the middle of it and then, those soft declaration of love makes you go all "well, yeah, they are, ugh I hâte this is the best they can do without getting punished", and that's not BL for me, but the people that has a bit of context about the situation over there or the people that knows about the story that the series is inspired on knows, knows that you have to be condescending or understanding, that is what they do due to the circumstances. And that's what I am highlighting.
This series sells fast among bromances and family series lovers because they won't need to worry, getting disappointed of hoping for something they might not get. I would love to jump, swim and drown in gay Chinese waters but reality check is a bitch. That's why I want to give my point of view to anyone looking at this with the hopes of getting a "Chinese BL series" just like we do with so many other BL series across Asia, no longer comparing a BL series from different countries since the culture is different, the way of displaying love might also be and so many other things also are, but for me a BL series is a romantic relationship, an unquestionable romantic relationship between two guys attracted to eachother and not homosexuality toyed and moved around with chopsticks.
Writing this I forgot why you were so upset about, but my comment was never about preventing anyone from watching this series and definitely and more specifically it isn't about discouraging any BL lover from a nice experience.
My review it is aimed to an specific group of people and the point is clear. There's no gay romance tag, but there is a friendship and family tag paired with a gay subtext tag, a censored BL adaptation tag and an enemies to friends tag too in the description, as it should. My review is aimed to express my personal opinion on the matter and I very well stand by it.
I think the best people can do, will always be to read more than one opinion before watching something, and decide for themselves if it's worst their time
I picked your comment because it was the last one but I think it works for everyone involved in the dispute opened by my review
So yeah, that's that. Have a lovely Wednesday yall
no x for every single one of you tho, but Cheers for everyone! ✌🏻
Xubin will do douyin live today. May we get some kind of update regarding uncut version 🙏https://x.com/burninglight92/status/1691494606339514368?s=46&t=w1_gbLmT3E_SkqouqLYbYQ
Can you Imagine 👀, a proper BL version of this 👀, that would be so nice!
You might be wondering: Is it BL?, and the quick answer is no. No, it is not a BL series... or at least not for the most part.
This season has 24 episodes: It's a family series for the first 18 and a censored BL series for the last 6 ones.
The series relies heavily on the imagination and the book knowledge of the viewer. Meaning, if you don't know any of the subtext, innuendos will fly you by like a bird in a beautiful summer day and you wouldn't think any romantic relationship between them it's happening right up until episode 19 ish I would say.
The series is well done, and if you are aware and willing to endure it as it is then you will enjoy it!
(like, it's not BL but it's the closest thing China can offer for now. Meaning settling in for censorship, hints and assumptions is what you have to put off with)
And that's what I did, I personally enjoyed the first 18 family series episodes and then I did enjoy those last 6 episodes where they nicely hinted their homosexual relationship to us. Which didn't make me happy happy, but I guess for gay guys living that ban first hand in China it must have, or at least it must have counted as some sort of representation in their own media to them, crumbs.
C'est la vie, right? Not everything is easy-peasy. I also suffered. I was heavily involved in their real romantic story that I knew from the book after Addicted the series got banned. I came to this series reluctantly because I couldn't bare the possibility to watch a gay relationship to be censored and hidden like it is something shameful and disgraceful. I cannot fathom or entertain that idea, not living proudly as I do and having enjoyed so many BL stories from others countries for so many years that have made me so incredibly happy for so long. That's why I never came back to Chinese adaptations of gay romantic stories ever since the ban of Addicted so many years ago and that's why I suffered by coming back to this. That gay ban left me angry, helpless and disappointed with their government, like, bruh.
It's save to say I needed some sort of closure, well, no, I have read the book, the original story is crazy by the way thank god is fiction, so no I didn't need closure but I wanted to see the story adaptation, I wanted a visual nice closure to that story that started with Addicted so many years ago. That's why I stayed and finished this series. And that's why I will watch the second season and be done with Chinese adaptations, since as I said, watching a gay relationship being censored is too painful for me.
I hope this review from a BL lover comes in handy to any other BL lover wanting to venture in the censored waters of Chinese adaptations.

... and I will leave you with a massive: Cheers, x!
I'm not sure if i want see another ''BL'' from china and i need to know if it's only bromance at the end of the…
It's a family series for the first 18 episodes and a censored BL for the last 6 episode that relies heavily on the imagination and the book knowledge of the viewer
You're lucky, now I can basically confirm that this is BL instead of Bromance
Thought and prayers, let's hope for the best. How they will manage, I don't know, but I will welcome those kisses or any confirmation like I want to be with you, with you not as a brother but with you as a lover with open arms 🥹
The dubbing is tragic. It's reasonably well done, but if you watch a lot of Cdrama you will recognize the voices.…
I mean yeah, I didn't say the dubbing was bad, it seems fair and you kind of by pass it after a couple of episodes, but I can't really forget about it, I couldn't. So yeah, hearing their real voices would be lovely someday I would be very interested in watching some non romantic series about what they are allowed to show about their culture nowadays, their entertainment, but I also know the media is harshly controlled so I'm guessing learning about their culture directly from a Chinese person it's the best way in this case
You're lucky, now I can basically confirm that this is BL instead of Bromance
Well I wouldn't go there, it's more like a nice family, friendship series but since we know it's inspired in a BL story it wouldn't be hard imagining it that way, for a person that doesn't know shit? Flies under the radar but for a BL connoisseur like me that meme "don't be suspicious" plays in my head when they are together on screen 😂. So even if it's easy for us to imagine something in Chinese series there is not going to be a focus on a hand gesture, touch or words that indicate any desire between the leads whatsoever. And that's the difference, in a regular BL series I dont have to imagine things. This séries is nice tho, it is good to heard mandarin and to see a bit of their culture through this fictional series. The architecture, the education, the food, the respect, the organisation or lack of it. I take it as a whole and I enjoyed it
The Untamed is fully dubbed. This is dubbed as well, because the story takes place in Beijing, both characters…
I just think is a little ridiculous since they are dubbing their own language and you know it's an actors job to often change for a role, they change the way they speak and behave to fit a certain character or at least they try, but Chinese rulers said: "No, not having it, we don't allow any silly attempts that risk having any other but the accent and tone we deem perfect" It's like lip syncing, but backwards 😂
I do get they needed an standard mandarin for all of them to be able to communicate better, at school, at work, information and with the world, showing it in television and entertainment helps with that task too, but making it mandatory to the point than anything but the perfect standard mandarin it's what I think is sad!
I probably won't come back to their entertainment after this because of this, the censorship already takes a big toll that paired with this fact is just unsustainable for me.
it's good than Korean, Thai, Japanese and Taiwanese ways make me feel way more good. Ugh, Jun X Jun is giving me life nowadays!
I had to look it up and according to Wikipedia: "There are several reasons why actors would be dubbed in Chinese…
For foreign dramas I'm assuming but they subtitle their own series and dub them anyways? Then the only people that benefits the subtitles are the hearing impaired, cause everyone else is getting the standard mandarin audio version, yikes!
I had to look it up and according to Wikipedia: "There are several reasons why actors would be dubbed in Chinese…
For us it doesn't matter because we would depend on subtitles anyway but for them as I said they should sub whenever an accent is too thick, not completely dubbed it to a neutral accent, ugh, I hate some of their ways to be honest, their government do and people eventually get used to it. Oh my god, you got used to it too? Oh no, poor thing! 🥹 What? Noise? Fuck noise, give me their real voices anyday 👀
Look people, I like BL, gay things, la real homosexualité, meaning, I haven't really watched anything Chinese…
I had to look it up and according to Wikipedia: "There are several reasons why actors would be dubbed in Chinese television dramas. First of all, dramas should be aired using putonghua, the standard Mandarin dialect, and many actors may have an accent, according to which region they come from..."
Which I think is ridiculous because you lose the beauty of different accents and uniqueness of their own dialects, they can always subtitles in standard mandarin the way Thai people do sometimes. I personally think dubbing your own language is atrocious and it definitely gets on my nerves, I had to avoid looking at Su Yu and Wu Bi beautiful mouths when they speak because of it 😭
Look people, I like BL, gay things, la real homosexualité, meaning, I haven't really watched anything Chinese after Addicted got cancelled years ago and that stupid ban started, and since everything Chinese after that has been a censored ass version of gay stories I didn't bother, you see, imagining a love story between two men isn't the same thing as having them confirming it so basically bromances and straight shit are against my principles 😅
With that being said, I ultimately decided to give an opportunity to this nowadays Chinese bromance, because of course it's inspired in the story I was left, disappointed, angry, and upset at that time.
So, yeah, I went in thinking I wasn't going to see anything gay, that what I would see was platonic and all in my head (which is the delusion I don't need in my life and I frankly hate), but trusting the show was going to be interesting since so many people keep saying is good and beautiful etc.
The shit is dubbed! 👏🏻DAH 👏🏻SHEE 👏🏻IS 👏🏻 DUBBED! HOW DARE THEY! THE SERIES IS DUBBED WTAF! Is this how Chinese make series? Have they always dubbed? Is this other very famous censored series, The Untamed also dubbed? I don't remember Addicted being dubbed, right? Bitch, I like to hear their real voices, THAT'S WHAT SUBTITLES ARE FOR!!! I'm assuming the actors speak Chinese, dude their voices can't be that bad! Do they sound horrible in real life? Why do they do that, it feels so wroooong!
So, long story short, so far I am waaaaaay more frustrated due to the fact that the series is dubbed, than the fact that I'm enjoying and watching something is not proper BL series, and that is that!
