If they had a scene showing that he was doing this to protect Lanxiang, then it would have gone down better. Instead…
I don’t think I’m being censored actually but I have seen this cycle on all the discussion forums before. ML does something bad some people point it out, everyone else effectively shuts them up by basically implying that they are stupid and feminist.
I haven’t been insistent on anything, I am more irritated at the conversation than the drama, but I do want the drama to address it, not because of morality, but because of my own personal enjoyment. Dramas in which a ml acts with impunity and the fl is a compliant doll are not exactly scarce in cdramaland, I am capable of moving on.

Suspending disbelief is a different conversation to boredom with is what you stated.
Every piece of media doesn’t have to be a morality lesson but it does have to say something, if the ml actions is never addressed in the drama then the drama has effectively romanticised it. Which would ultimately reflect the audiences desires apparently so doesn’t really matter tbh.
Mentioning censorship is quite interesting because not liking a ml actions in a historical drama has people patronising you constantly about feminism and “modern sensibilities”. Just wondering who is really being censored here.
Imagine an era where an Emperor’s word is law. Where an Emperor is called the Son of Heaven! Where parents and…
Regardless of what action a ml character takes in a historical drama as long as it makes sense in the time setting the audience should be happy. We should be grateful that the director toned down the violence for a modern audience otherwise we would just watch the ml rape the fl and be happy since it makes sense contextually. The audience has no right to criticise a ml actions because we clearly came to watch a historical horror not a romance
The genre of a piece of media has no influence on its audience expectations apparently only the dramas setting matters.
Not at all. Do you think that he would devise a lethal disease just to get the woman that he wants? And he would…
Honestly, I think everyone in these comments are just high on their own supply because they rot their brains with all these rapey ml characters in all the media they consume, no one is allowed to call a disgusting action disgusting.
Your comment says a lot about how women are portrayed in xianxia/wuxia/historical C-dramas. Not a normal woman…
I always wonder if chinese women are disturbed by their portrayal on most dramas. Its becoming unbearable for me. It also makes no sense, many dramas are made with a mostly female target audience in mind but the most interesting characters are male.
I'm rewatching and i just realised that Ling yue is hilarious for example in episode 5 the scene where he rejects the Princess in front of his Dad and family. I just realised that the Emperer forced him to attend that meal and he ultimately said I will just stand here and watch you eat... I think I was just looking at his face the first time I watched tbh.
That scene in episode 20-21 where He Zhao Jun (Estelle Chen) executes that guy was so good. I hope Leo Wu and Zhao Lu Si have an opportunity to show their acting skills like that, but I also dont want anything that bad to happen to them.
I stopped watching AvenueX's reviews when I realized her and I have different tastes in dramas. So not worth wasting…
Same I realised we had different tastes when she rated TSOM low but i thought maybe she doesnt like Zhao Liying. She rated this one a bit low too so I think she might not be biased just doesnt like family centric period dramas. I am personally obsessed with these types of dramas.
